Neutral Labs Introduces Queen Elmyra – a not-so-modest drone synthesizer

video upload by Neutral Labs

"Meet Queen Elmyra. With 8 voices and up to 24 oscillators controlled by touchpads, MIDI or gates, 69 knobs and faders, 96 patch points on the front panel and every single parameter being CV controllable, it's a veritable behemoth of drone and experimental sounds (and also 8 independent mono synths whenever that's what you want it to be).

Engage the tube circuitry for subtle saturation or turn it up for nasty distortion, shape the behaviour of the multimode analog filter by plugging components like diodes or capacitors directly into the front panel, enrich your sound with the dozens of digital effects, all in stereo, all fully patchable. Instead of stereo distortion, filter and effects, you want to run one side into the other for a complex mono effects chain? All done in a few seconds with a bunch of patch cables (included).

Each voice will turn into a complex modulation source at the flick of a switch, allowing you to control any of the parameters of the other voices, as well as those of the stereo distortion, filter or effects. And of course, it will also play nicely with other modular and semi-modular gear.

Despite being no stranger to wild and unstable sounds, Queen Elmyra can be well behaved and will fit in nicely with a modern studio. Thanks to the digital nature of the oscillators, no frustrating tuning procedure is needed, and they can be quantised to a large variety of scales as well. Modulation sources and sequences can be synced to clock or MIDI, or run free for a more organic feel.

The current lineup of Neutral Labs synths has seen ongoing support via firmware updates, with new functionality being added regularly even for older devices. Queen Elmyra will enjoy the same treatment for many years to come, and updates are a breeze thanks to USB-C and drag-and-drop file copying, with no special software needed.
