Tape Fiasco 2 just got a lot more powerful
video upload by Jonas Eriksson
"Five new effects, deeper modulation, external sidechain control, clocked Stretch parameters, multiple themes, and more.
---
Over the last several updates, Tape Fiasco has grown into an even deeper sound-design effect with more ways to shape, animate, destroy, and rhythmically transform your audio.
Since v660, it has gained five completely new effects, deeper modulation, external sidechain control, clocked Stretch parameters, multiple themes, more distortion controls, better readability, improved Squash effect, better readability, and a much easier way to stay up to date.
Meet five entirely new effects
Pitch Shift:
Pitch Shift uses a grain-based engine to move audio up or down in pitch: from tight octave layers and harmonised doubles to hazy, wide stereo textures. Try it on vocals for an otherworldly double, or on a synth with added Spray for unstable, tape-like movement.
Scatter:
Scatter breaks incoming audio into a living cloud of grains that can be pitched, reversed, frozen, and scrambled. Turn a simple drum loop into a shifting rhythmic pattern, or stretch a sustained sound into an evolving atmospheric texture.
Gate:
Gate lets you tighten loose recordings, remove unwanted sound between hits, or reshape the tails of drums and percussion. Push it harder — and modulate its settings — to turn continuous audio into sharp, animated rhythmic patterns.
Mangle:
Mangle is an aggressive two-band compressor and saturator built to pull out noise, grit, and hidden detail. Put it on a polite drum bus, bass, or texture and turn up Brutality to make it louder, dirtier, and far less well-behaved.
A new EQ for fast, focused tone shaping:
EQ is a flexible five-mode tone shaper with high-pass, low-shelf, bell, high-shelf, and low-pass modes. Remove rumble before distortion, add weight to thin drums, tame a harsh resonance, or modulate the frequency for animated filter sweeps. Then drive the high- or low-pass modes for extra character.
More control over distortion and Prism:
The distortion effects now include dedicated low- and high-cut controls, making it easier to keep low-end weight under control, soften brittle highs, and place distortion exactly where it belongs in the mix.
Prism has also gained a new Notch mode. Use it to carve moving gaps into harmonically rich material, create hollow resonant sweeps, or add subtle motion without taking over the entire signal.
Squash has been heavily reworked:
For a cleaner, but also more noticeable effect.
Modulate your modulators:
You can now modulate a modulator’s own settings using the four modulation columns, the Graph Editor, or the Perform page.
This new layer of modulation makes it possible to build movement inside movement: LFOs that change shape, envelopes that continuously evolve, and performances that never repeat in quite the same way.
Make Tape Fiasco react to external audio:
Tape Fiasco can now use an external audio signal as a sidechain or envelope-following source. Let drums drive an effect, make a texture follow a vocal, or use any external signal to bring responsive movement and dynamics into your processing. Set the envelope follower to External signal and feed a second audio to the plugin.
Tighter, more rhythmic Stretch effects:
Stretch’s Scatter and Grain Size parameters can now follow the host clock, giving you more rhythmic, repeatable, and precise results. Build grain movement that locks to the track instead of drifting around it.
Multiple themes — and clearer text:
Tape Fiasco now supports multiple themes, so the interface can better match your taste and workspace. Text readability has also been improved throughout the plugin, making it faster and more comfortable to use in long sessions.
New presets!
Updating is easier, too:
The new built-in update checker lets you see when a new version is available without signing in to Lemon Squeezy. No account detour, no guesswork: just a simpler way to keep Tape Fiasco current.
