"The Proteus 1 is a compact 1U rack module built around a 4MB ROM library of 16-bit samples drawn from the E-mu Emulator III, covering rock and pop sounds including pianos, organs, strings, horns, guitars, basses, drums, and Latin percussion. It offers 32-voice polyphony, 16-part MIDI multitimbrality, six individual polyphonic outputs, and an extensive modulation and editing system. The Proteus 1 could be expanded to a "Plus Orchestral" configuration using an additional 4MB orchestral ROM card."

"The Vintage Keys was the first module in E-MU's second-generation Proteus range, launched in 1993. It is a digital rackmount synthesizer focused on emulating classic vintage keyboards and synthesizers, with its 8MB ROM sampled from the Emulator III library. The sound set covers Rhodes and Wurlitzer electric pianos, Hammond B3 organs, Prophet, Minimoog, Oberheim, and ARP analogue synthesizers, Mellotron, and drum samples. It offers 32-voice polyphony, 512 presets split between RAM and ROM, 16-part MIDI multitimbrality, and six audio outputs. Onboard digital low-pass filtering is included."

"The Classic Keys is a derivative of the Vintage Keys released in 1994, based on the same Proteus platform and using 8MB of 16-bit samples drawn from the Emulator III library. It is a 32-voice multitimbral 1U rack module with dual LFOs, dual amplitude and auxiliary AHDSR envelopes, chorus, and dual effects processors. Memory holds 256 preset and 256 user patches. Unlike the Vintage Keys, the Classic Keys omits the digital filter section, substituting a different effects arrangement in its place. There is no card slot or expansion capability, and audio output is stereo rather than multi-output."

"The Pro/cussion is a dedicated drum and percussion MIDI sound module released in 1991, built on the Proteus platform. It contains 4MB of 16-bit percussion samples at 39kHz drawn from the Emulator III library, with 32-voice polyphony and 16-part multitimbrality. The sample set covers kick drums, snares, toms, hi-hats, cymbals, Latin percussion, and tuned percussion including marimbas and vibes, totalling over 1,000 individual samples. Up to eight sounds can be layered on a single key or drum pad. The module responds to all 16 MIDI channels and provides three stereo outputs, configurable as six individually assignable sub-mix outputs. No internal effects are included."
