CIAT-LONBARDE TETRAX DESKTOP BASS SYNTHESISER

"Tetrax follows a lineage of touch-based Ciat-Lonbarde instruments, built around four wooden bars that are pressed to activate four internal oscillators, each with its own fine-tuning slider embedded directly in the bar. Two master pitch knobs and two master chaos knobs shape the overall sound, with each chaos knob gradually increasing modulation from one oscillator to the next in a circular pattern, taking the instrument from pure sawtooth tones into dense noise.

The duplicated master controls reflect Tetrax's focus on timbre modulation via the separate upslope and downslope of triangle waveforms, giving independent shaping in each direction. Twenty-eight banana-jack modulation points are arranged in four diagonally shifted columns corresponding to the four bars, colour-coded by function — cool colours for inputs, hot colours for outputs — enabling touch-patching by pressing banana studs directly by hand. A stereo mini output reflects the press/release cycle of each bar across the two channels, and the instrument runs from either the included 12V PSU or a 9V battery."

Talking Serge, cybernetics & techno with Chris Miller (Gunnar Haslam/La Synthese Humaine)

video upload by Signal Sounds and Tom Churchill

"Tom and Luke are joined by a special guest for this episode of Signal Flow: Chris Miller, aka Gunnar Haslam, La Synthese Humaine (and many, many other aliases). Chris was a leading light in the early 2010s New York techno scene, and has gone on to use the Serge modular synthesiser to explore analogue computing, cybernetics and experimental sound design through his revered YouTube channel, La Synthese Humaine. He has also worked at Moog, where he produced and presented a superb series on the basics of synthesis, is one half of the excellent Base Camp Beta podcast with Shawn O’Sullivan, and is an all-round good egg with a wealth of knowledge on everything from experimental music to science, philosophy and economics. Hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did!"

You can find Chris' La Synthèse Humaine videos featured here, and his Synthesizing with Moog videos here.

You can find his label, Critique of Everyday Life here.

"We say...
A pre-owned Bastl Instruments Kastle ARP in excellent condition. It comes with original packaging and accessories.

Manufacturer's description
Kastle ARP is a unique modular melody generator based on a quantized sine wave oscillator with a digital waveshaper.

The pitch selection employs straightforward concepts to unleash surprising intricacy. The quantized oscillator ensures it is always in tune, and its pitch can be selected using the NOTE and CHORD inputs. The decay envelope adds variation by occasionally skipping pitches before retriggering. The timbre control allows you to blend between noble sine waves and 8-bit chip-tunes.
