Buzz Zone is a boutique performance-oriented synth with a rich set of features, cutting edge DSP and a streamlined modern interface for endless inspiration and experimentation

The synth has two engines that can be layered together for a range of complex sounds and textures. The 'Synth' engine is a great sounding wavetable oscillator with a unison function for buzzy, harmonically rich timbres, hence the name! The 'Sample' engine mixes in additional textures or attack samples over the sound.

Buzz Zone has 6 sequencers, built for messing around with phrases, riffs, and ideas before locking things down: grab a few bars on a controller and drop them into a slot, scrub the playhead to audition the result before committing it, or trigger and transpose sequences live from a keyboard or pad controller.

Version 3 Update

Version 3 is a major free update headlined by six new sequencers with a piano-roll editor, and the Utility Strip, a workspace for building your own MIDI and modulation setups from a huge library of triggers and panels, included with every Toybox plugin. It also brings a more flexible modulation engine, unison chords and tuning systems, a second bank of envelopes with new editing modes, a new set of reverbs and effects, Snapshots that store and morph between complete variations of a sound, and a new high-contrast look. Existing presets and projects load and sound the same as in Version 2 unless you use the new features. New to the sequencers, expressions, Utility Strip or Snapshots? The Getting Started With Version 3section has four short walkthroughs to try first.

New in Version 3

Six new sequencers, each with its own piano-roll MIDI editor and per-note expression editing

The Utility Strip, a modular workspace for building your own MIDI setups, arpeggiators, note repeaters, chord generators, LFOs, CC mappers, snapshot switchers, sequencer launchers and lots more, from a large factory library of Triggers and Panels

New oscillator modulation modes with 16 modulation types (FM, AM, hard sync, eight phase distortion modes, and others), applied to all oscillators, the main or harmony oscillator, or each unison voice separately

Sub Routing, sending the sub oscillator straight to the outputs or through the filter, the phase distortion section, or both

New Envelope Banks A & B with crossfade, which can follow velocity, modwheel, aftertouch or pitchbend to morph between envelope shapes as you play

New envelope editing modes — Smart, Lines and Steps, Draw and Record modes for freehand curves, grid snapping and lasso selection, a right-click editing menu and per-envelope presets

New effects added with a total of 25 reverbs and effects

Snapshots, storing complete variations of a sound (parameters, envelope shapes and sequencer loop regions), with smooth morphing between them and up to 64 slots per preset

New Mirror Modes, repeating the keyboard into stacked note ranges for doubling and power-chords, with detune to spread the stacked voices

New Pitchbend Modes for per-voice and per-note bends

Unison Chords, spreading the six unison voices into a chord with a depth control for special effects

Global Tuning, a library of tuning systems including historical temperaments, just intonation and world tunings

Over 100 new presets

New high-contrast GUI

General GUI improvements and bug fixes
