"JIANT FM v0.6.29 — Pushing the M-VAVE FM-1 Further

JIANT FM has reached v0.6.29!

I'm developing JIANT FM as an experimental custom firmware for the M-VAVE FM-1, building on Felucca and the work of the open-source synth community.

What started as a firmware modification has grown into a much broader instrument concept focused on synthesis, modulation, sound mutation, sequencing, and live performance.

My goal isn't simply to add more presets or effects. I want the FM-1 to feel like a living system — an instrument where rhythms, timbres, and parameters can constantly evolve, interact, and transform while you play.

What's inside JIANT FM?

8 sound engines with different approaches to sound design.
Six-track sequencing, with tools for arranging patterns into complete songs.
An advanced modulation matrix, assignable macros, and a modulation sequencer for creating evolving, interconnected sounds.
A wide effects system with experimental delays, multiple reverbs, distortion, and creative processing.
Punch-in FX for manipulating patterns in real time.
Random generators for sounds, sequences, and complete musical ideas.
Song arrangement tools for building longer structures from individual sections.
Three performance modes: 4 FULL, 6 LITE, and 6 FULL, letting you balance processing load and sonic complexity.

The latest update introduces 6 LITE, a middle ground that runs all six tracks while substituting lighter versions of the most demanding effects and reducing the FM6 engine's voice count. Switching back to 6 FULL restores the full sound without changing the saved project.

I'm especially interested in making the instrument feel fluid and unpredictable without losing musical control. Patterns can be generated, reshaped, mutated, and performed rather than simply played back unchanged.

I'm a visual artist from Argentina, not a traditionally trained software developer. I started this project because I wanted to build the instrument I wanted to play, using AI-assisted coding to help bring my ideas to life.

JIANT FM is an independent, open-source project, and there's still plenty to explore and refine.
