Korg EXB-MOSS Explained: Physical Modelling Power

video upload by Ian Dixon

"The Korg KARMA normally works as a sample-based workstation, but with the EXB-MOSS expansion board installed it gains a completely separate physical modelling synth engine. In this video I explain what the MOSS board is, where the technology came from, and why it matters for Korg Prophecy, Z1, Trinity, Triton and KARMA users.

MOSS gives the KARMA its own Bank F with 128 programs, six extra voices of polyphony and a set of oscillator models that go far beyond PCM samples. I walk through the MOSS history, show how the different models work, and demonstrate electric piano, VPM/FM-style tones, reed, brass, plucked string, sync, analog-style, organ and performance-controlled sounds using the KARMA and my editor.
