"In this direct head-to-head audio shootout, we compare two popular compact FM synthesizers: the ultra-affordable M-Vave FM-1 (running the custom Baud Girl firmware) and the industry-standard Korg Volca FM2.

Can a budget FM module truly rival the Volca FM2 in raw sound quality, dynamic range, and character? Listen to the side-by-side audio test and judge for yourself!

🎹 Test Methodology & Sound Settings:
To guarantee an objective, 100% fair comparison:

🔍 Unified Preset Bank: We gathered a variety of classic and modern FM patches (compatible with Yamaha DX7 SysEx architecture) into a single, identical test bank loaded onto both devices.
🔍 Pure & Unprocessed Audio: All presets are played in their original, unedited state. No external EQ, compression, saturation, or stereo enhancement was added in post-production.
🔍 Firmware Note: The M-Vave FM-1 is tested using the community-favorite Baud Girl custom firmware, which unlocks improved stability and enhanced SysEx / MIDI handling.
🔍 Signal Chain: Both units were recorded at matched line levels through professional audio converters into a DAW at 24-bit/48kHz.

🎹 Key Areas to Listen For:
🔍 DAC & Output Noise Floor: How do the converters compare when sustained chords decay into silence?
🔍 Frequency Response: Pay close attention to low-end sub presence on bass patches and high-frequency alias brightness on bells and plucks."
