Mutable Dreams 1.1 — Warmer Voices, Your Own Biomes | FM-1 Update

video upload by Kid Bunka

You can find the M-VAVE FM-1 on Amazon.

You might remember Mutable Dreams for the M-VAVE FM-1 from this previous demo by HanzVolt.

"Released on 25 October, version 1.1 turns the M-VAVE FM-1 into a six-track generative instrument for ambient textures, basslines and percussion. Tracks are freely assignable, and editable musical environments called Biomes provide starting points for evolving pieces.

The update adds warmer voices, a global mixer with granular/delay/room sends, editable 16-step phrases and named User Biomes. The release includes twelve engines, 224 tones, 76 Biomes plus Blank, sixteen User Biome slots and 64 User Sounds."

UPDATE SAFELY
A direct update from Mutable Dreams 1.0 is supported and tested. Stock V15 installation and return are documented. Follow the backup guide for your current version: 1.0 does not support the new .mddb protocol. Returning to V15 erases 1.1 User Banks and preferences. Save while stopped with the internal clock. Full bank restore needs physical SEL confirmation.

TRS MIDI input is included; its physical connector test is still outstanding. USB MIDI was tested. The test report states the exact scope and practical limits. Published 1.0 remains available unchanged.

MUSIC & VISUALS
All music was recorded from a real FM-1 running the final Mutable Dreams 1.1 firmware. Level adjustments and fades were used for the film; the grain listening passage is an uncut device recording. Animated Mutable Dreams 1.1 firmware views are rendered from the release source. These are native application screens, not camera recordings of live editing. Calm male narration was generated with Runway.

WITH GRATITUDE
Émilie Gillet and Mutable Instruments, Charles Vestal / fm1-base, Leo Kuroshita / Felucca and the open-source contributors. Selected original Plaits, Rings and Elements algorithms retain their credits and MIT notices. Marbles/Tides/Warps-inspired tools are original interpretations, not complete ports. Independent community project, unaffiliated with Mutable Instruments or M-VAVE. Combined distribution GPL-3.0-only, with original component notices preserved.
