"This is a fully working unit. The knobs are original factory, though later knob style changed. Later units had colored knobs...

Manufacturer Description:
The bC8 is probably the smallest production synthesizer in the world and certainly the cutest.

Packed into the bC8's tiny round body is a hand-assembled gold plated circuit board, eight high-quality potentiometers, a stereo jack socket, push-button, no less than four LED's, battery holder (3xAAA cells) with a robust stainless steel base.

Sophisticated digitally based oscillators are housed on the DSP as well as an innovative recording system and internal control voltage patching. Choose between single-shot and repetitive envelope generator modes; use the separate ATTACK and RELEASE knobs to create long and soulful drones; select the recording system to record and playback complex patterns of control knob movement, speed up or slow down the pattern playback to add extra glide detail or confusion, override any of the controls during playback to adapt, complicate or simplify your composition.

The bC8's VCO goes from the subsonic to the upper end of human hearing, introduce subtle amounts of modulation from the LFO or envelope generator to create gentle vibratos or progressively wind in more than 700% modulation for almost impossible-to-predict and perhaps never-heard-before sounds. VCO is capable of 'thru-zero' modulation (frequencies run backwards).

To sum up: Eight LFO and four VCO morphing waveshapes, 128 different patchings, deep modulation options, wide ranging ATTACK/DECAY envelope generator and recording sequencer in a hand-built-by-one-man-in-a-tiny-factory-in-England - pocket sized - self powered - round package carefully machined from high-quality plastic.

The bC8 recorder records each knob position when the button is pressed and released, as well as the duration of the button press and the time between presses, when playing back each of the recorded positions is replayed with a smooth glide between values.

bC8 technical details:
70mm (2.75") diameter - coke can size
52mm (2") tall
8 knobs
4 LED's (2 green, 2 red)
128 patch types (VCO/LFO/VCA/EG patching, including inverted EG types, and chaining EG>LFO>VCO, etc...), Modulation depth control

Minibrute drone

Published on Feb 10, 2014 UncertainMusicCorps·52 videos

"It's a Minibrute. Doing a little drone. With BC8 support. And no FX other than some v light reverb to hold things together. Recorded direct to camera.

Done for a friend as a quick, one-off demo, to demonstrate the versatility of this excellent little synth."

BC9 lowlight drone #2

Published on Dec 27, 2013 UncertainMusicCorps·51 videos

"I was trying to rein things in a bit on the BC9 (+ Pitchfactor) while experimenting with a new camera workflow when things started to sound a bit interesting. This one really does need headphones or good monitors if you want to hear the range this little thing can deliver up."

BC9 Collage 1

Published on Dec 15, 2013 UncertainMusicCorps·50 videos

"A fairly restrained solo outing for the tiny but versatile BC 9 plus a couple of pedals. Capable of going from mellow drone to nailed-to-the-wall noise in a 1mm turn of a pot. This thing is a lot more controllable via CV (brilliant with Pressure Points for example) but that's not the aim today.

There is a fairly wide range of both dynamics and frequencies so mind your ears and speakers."

"The Chimera bC9 synthesizer offers the same range of sounds as the bC8, with the ability to externally modulate any possible combination of the eight main control knobs, including the infamous ?patch? control; a ninth knob controls the depth of external modulation?

The semi-transparent frosted body diffuses the light from the ten LED?s that logically show various conditions and processes.

Note: Chimera is a boutique synth manufacturer. Some buyers have reported long delays between ordering products and getting them delivered. This item is ready to ship next day.

Detailed specs on the Chimera bC9 below.

Specifications:

CV input: 3.5mm jack socket (near yellow VCO knob): 0v to 5v
Trig input: 3.5mm jack socket (centre): 2 to 10v
Audio out: 3.5mm stereo jack socket (near grey volume knob), drives headphones.
Indicators

10 separate LED?s of various colours. Aside from showing the current status of the

"The unit is about the size of a CD but still has a wealth of features to be connected via the included patch cables. Functionality includes: oscillator, LFO, ADSR envelope generator, VCA, VCF, noise source, ring modulation and MIDI interface.

The bC16 functions are controlled by sixteen color-coded potentiometers. Synthesizer sections are connected via the 10 included 2mm mini-banana pin connectors.

The unit is very well made. All the knobs and jacks are firm and operate smoothly. The bC16 is powered by 6 AA batteries (included) or an external 9 to 12 V source. It has an standard mini jack for earphones.

The bC16 was made by a one man company that went belly up and ceased to exist. There is quite a bit of information on the web, however. Check out the videos of the bC16 on youtube. There were only a few made and they are quite rare. I could only find one case of one being sold on the Internet.

This bC16 is in very, very good shape. It has no scratches and is fully function. It comes with 10 patch cables and a "patchable signal inverter" that allows a signal to be inverted before patching it into another section. I will provide the documentation on a CD. The manual is not fully completed. I have no other packaging for the unit. The auction includes the items in the first photo.

This is a really nice, fun synthesizer for a collection or a musician...

The manufacturer says:

The bC16 miniature patch synthesizer packs a fully featured VCO, LFO, envelope generator, analog VCA, analog VCF, noise sources & ring modulator all in a CD sized case CNC machined from 10mm high-grade acrylic plastic.

Fifteen color coded potentiometers control key functions, connections between synthesizer sections are done using twenty-five 2mm mini-banana sockets.

Powered by either six AAA batteries or by an external (not supplied) 9 to 12v source, the bC16 can be used free standing (internal headphone amplifier), linked to an external keyboard/sequencer or MIDI-CV converters, combined with other bC16's, etc...

VCO: The complex VCO (actually two linked VCO's) waveshape can be adjusted through sine/triangle/sawtooth and square wave (with adjustable dutycycle). The VCO can be CV modulated (log response), FM modulated (linear response) or can be driven by MIDI NOTE values. The two linked VCO's can be offset using a control knob, CV or MIDI for rich complex tones.

LFO: Like the VCO the LFO is actually two linked low frequency oscillators with a host of modulation possibilties and waveshapes. Like the VCO the LFO can also be controlled via MIDI.

VCF: An all analog 24dB discrete ladder filter with variable cuttoff (knob and CV), adjustable resonance, specially designed to work from the low voltage busses in the bC16.

EG: The bC16 envelope generator is very easy to use, four knobs (or via MIDI) control the Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release parameters of the envelope. Set sustain to zero and the EG enters repeat mode for long VCS3 style modulation possibilites.

VCA & HEADPHONE AMP: An analog voltage controlled amplifier is provided along with an built-in headphone amplifier (volume control via grey knob)."

"This machine is amazing, it has three modes.
1) single shot, press the black button and it makes the sound once.
2) repeating oscillations.
3) programmable mode.

It only has eight knobs, but even for that you can make very unique sounds. It contains an array of oscillators, effects and other weirdness. What's more it runs off three AAA's and fits happily into your pocket, all the better for scaring people whilst your on public transport."
