"Original guitar synthesizer made by Innovex/Hammond Corp. Made in 1969, this synthesizer works great and truly brings back the sound of Woodstock. Does not include original MIDI cord, and the only small issue's are some of the keys are sticky/dirty and need to be cleaned but all the EFX work. Also, one of the lightbulbs that illuminates the Vibrato/tremolo/repeat (red channel) is not connected but is included (pictured). A great piece for a vintage music collector."

Innovex Hammond Condor RSM Wind Instrument Synth w/ Instructions and Extras

via this auction

"THIS SALE IS FOR A VERY RARE INNOVEX HAMMOND CONDOR RSM WIND INSTRUMENT SYNTHESIZER. THIS WAS MADE IN THE 1970s, BUT STILL USED TODAY BY SOME INNOVATIVE ARTIST'S.

I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THIS UNIT ORIGINALLY CAME WITH, SO I CAN'T SAY IT'S COMPLETE. BUT, I WILL LIST THE ITEMS INCLUDED WITH THIS SALE.

THE "CONDOR" RSM UNIT. THIS IS A SELF CONTAINED LOCKING UNIT THAT COMES WITH 2 ORIGINAL KEYS.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS.

3 MODIFIED MOUTHPIECES - TRUMPET, CLARINET, & SAXOPHONE. THESE HAVE ALL BEEN MADE TO ACCEPT A SMALL MICROPHONE IN ORDER TO PLAY THROUGH THIS UNIT.

THERE ARE 3 MICROPHONES, SHURE BROTHERS CA20B's, WHICH WERE NOT SOLD TO SHURE DEALERS, ONLY TO HAMMOND FOR THIS UNIT.

HERE'S SOME MORE INFO ON THESE MICS & THIS SYNTH:

The CA20B was manufactured by Shure from 1968 to 1970. The CA20B had a ceramic transducer element with an output level of -73 dB V at 94 dB SPL / One Pascal. It was sold only to the Innovex division of the Hammond Organ Company. The CA20B was not sold to Shure dealers.

The CA20B attached to the mouthpiece of a wind instrument, like a trumpet, clarinet, or sax. A hole was drilled into the side of the mouthpiece. A brass adapter, with an internal rubber O-ring, was threaded into this hole. The CA20B then threaded into this adapter. The unbalanced, high impedance output signal from the CA20B was carried on a 60" cable terminated in a tip/sleeve 1/8" phone plug. The phone plug connected to the Condor RSM Wind Instrument Synthesizer, made by Innovex. The Condor was based on the electronics of the Hammond orgran and could produce a variety of sounds and effects using the wind instrument as the trigger source. Examples of settings on the Condor: Bass Sax, Fuzz, Cello, Oboe, Tremolo, Vibrato, Bassoon, etc. If the player wanted to use the instrument acoustically, the CA20B would be unthreaded from the adapter and replaced by a brass cap that sealed the side hole in the mouthpiece.

The Condor was not a success and Shure made few of the CA20B. Some players continued to use the CA20B as a horn pick up, connecting it to the input of a guitar amp. Other model numbers associated with the CA20B were CA20, CA20A, RD7458, and 98A132B.

THERE ARE ALSO 2 COVERS FOR THE MICROPHONE HOLES ON THE MOUTHPIECES. THEY ARE INTER-CHANGEABLE.

AND 2 SMALL PADDED ENVELOPES TO HOLD YOUR ACCESSORIES.

AS FAR AS TESTING, I ONLY KNOW THAT IT POWERS ON, AS YOU CAN SEE FROM MY PICS. I ALSO GOT A LITTLE REVERB WHEN ATTACHED TO AN EXTERNAL AMP.

THIS IS NOT AN AMPLIFIER! ONE IS REQUIRED TO MAKE THIS FUNCTIONAL."

via the seller: "Condor gsm guitar synth. Has never been installed onto a guitar, therefore I've never used it. It's in brand new condition except for a small scuff on the side(see pic). I have no idea if it works but it probably does since it's never been used. Seems like all the install parts are there including the templates for installing the special pickup system."

Hammond Innovex Condor GSM Guitar Synthesizer Video

"This is a demo of the Hammond Innovex Condor GSM, currently for sale at my site Phase II EFX (http://phaseiiefx.tumblr.com/#23518666868).

This demo is rather rough, unfortunately, as I used the camera mic for the sound in the effect demo. The higher quality sound in the first minute of the demo was recorded through my console into computer."

"The Innovex Hammond Condor GSM is a rare bird, indeed, and this specimen, in particular, is beauty. The set includes the Innovex Hammond GSM effects unit, Condor hollowbody Guitar (manufactured by Ovation), original cable, case, manual, hangtags, and case slipcover. I have never seen another Condor as complete as this one.

A rather sophisticated octave divider (triggered by a special hex pickup) lies at the heart of the Condor GSM. The Condor guitar’s hex pickup connects to the Condor effects unit, allowing each string to trigger selected effects or settings that mimic other instruments. In essence, the Condor becomes a polyphonic effect, unlike a lot of similar effects units from the period, like the Maestro Soundsystem for Woodwinds, which uses monophonic triggering. With the polyphony of the Condor, you can get an incredible range of sublime octave dividing effects triggered by each individual string. A set of dials on the Condor effects unit allow the user to dial in the sensitivity/triggering for each string.

The effects are arranged in three color-coded categories: red—vibrato, tremolo, blue—bass, yellow-higher voices. Tabs mounted on the front activate an effect, while the sliders on the top of the unit give control over rate, and intensity, and bass volume/tone, and yellow voice volume/tone.

Effects include(from left to right):

red: repeat, tremolo/vibrato

blue: two string bass guitar, two string bass, bass guitar, string bass, bassoon, organ;

yellow: fuzz, mellow, horn, oboe, sitar, natural amplified, harpsichord, soprano.

The sounds conjured from the Condor are really quite incredible, in fact the condor can be run in stereo with blue effects (bass) to one side, and yellow effects to the other. This is useful for bass especially as you can send the blue voice to bass rig for massive sound. You can also select multiple settings at once for incredibly twisted combinations. The yellow voices are the most sublime, especially the sitar (rather convincing), and an unreal harpsichord sound that is the craziest thing I’ve ever heard.

The hex pickup on the Condor connects to the effects unit; however, the Condor guitar also has a regular 1/4 in. output, so you can have another set of effects or amp routing if you really want to get crazy, and I believe YOU DO!

The Condor guitar was in fact a rebranded Ovation Tornado, a 3/4 scale hollowbody, with bridge and neck pickups, in addition to the hex pickup used to control the GSM. Ovation electrics were incredibly well-built guitars, with fine detailing and unique designs. Check the specs on the Tornado.

The Condor is rumored to have been used by Jimi Hendrix, and it’s not hard to believe. The sonic possibilities, especially for this era, are unreal. I imagine the market would have been rather small for the expensive Condor GSM, relegating it to rich experimenters, session pros and studios. I have never seen another complete set for sale. This is truly a rare opportunity to own an esoteric guitar effect classic."

Vintage Condor RSM Innovex Hammond Woodwind Synthesizer

"CONDOR RSM BY INNOVEX, A HAMMOND COMPANY. A MULTIVIDER, this unit was designed to produce harmonics at the touch of a button. It was used by running the pickup from a tenor saxophone into it. Imagine taking a real low note from a Tenor sax, then add a sub harmonic or two. Or, take a note and go up a couple of octaves. It has presets for Repeat, Attack, Vibrato/Tremolo, Sub Octave, Dynamute, Fuzz, Bass Sax, Tuba, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, English horn, Cello, Natural Amplified, Horn, Oboe, and Soprano Sax. The slide Pots on the top are for; Intensity for Vibrato and Tremolo, Rate for Vibrato/Tremolo Repeat and Dynamute, Tone (Bass or Treble), and Volume for the associated Presets. Hammond is the Company that made the best Electronic Organs on the market. This unit gives you the ability to use the controls that you would find on a Hammond Organ for your pickup or microphone."

Condor GSM guitar synth SN 1728

via this auction

"This is made for Innovex/Hammond Co.

Its the Condor GSM guitar synthesizer

This was one of the 1st guitar synths ever made, we're talking 60's stuff here!

Hendrix used one, as did others (do a search online for more info)

Originally this came with a funky cable that attached to a custom pickup you would have to mount in your guitar.

Without the cable I can't fully test the machine, but I took pics of it powered up, sure looks awesome all lit up!!

I'm pretty sure you could customize a 1/4" output for this baby and make it work with your electric guitar."
