"Ludwig Phase II Guitar Synthesizer vintage excellent condition even the rubber feet. I also have the original (not a copy) sales brochure from 1970. I am the original owner. It has never been opened or modified. The original handle is missing the bar grip that is held in by two screws. I don't think I played more than 10 times since I bought it in 1970. Everything works including all the lights. These are one of the rarest fx pedals. Supposedly only 150 were made."

"Ludwig Phase II Guitar Synthesizer vintage excellent condition even the rubber feet. There are a few scratches. There is a dent at the bottom back corner as seen in photo. Please view all 12 photos. I also have the original (not a copy) sales brochure from 1970. I am the original owner. It has never been opened or modified. I lost the original handle and had the one you see in the photos made. I don't think I played more than 10 times since I bought it in 1970. Everything works including all the lights. This is one of the rarest fx pedals. Supposedly only 150 were made."

"There were not many of these pedals made. According to the records there were 500 made and less then 100 exist today. This pedal is perfect working order and sounds incredible."

Anyone confirm the count? These used to come up fairly often.

via the listing: "This is the grail of the ultra rare Ludwig Phase II Synthesizer. It is in great and complete cosmetic condition and perfect operational condition. This was the personal pedal of the guru of the LPII himself, mrdigi2t. If you google or youtube Ludwig Phase II you will be looking at this actual unit. His youtube vids feature this very unit. mrdigi2t knows these units inside out, upside and down. He has gone through this unit with a fine tooth comb, fresh soldered every last possible spot & calibrated to exact specs.

It works and sounds perfect and is a mind blowing unit capable of many crazy things nothing else approaches. Use of the stereo output sends a euphonically enhanced dry signal (sounds amazing) to one amp and the wet effected signal to another. The possibilities are endless and the 'get lost' factor is deep and instantaneous.

For a collector or studio, it will never get better than this. mrdigi2t will always be able to service this unit and he is one of the coolest gentleman you will ever meet. That being said, you should not have to worry about it for another 40 years. He has restored this to better than original."

Vintage Ludwig Phase II Synthesizer

"For those who are unfamiliar with this amazing piece of gear, it is actually a small cabinet, about 18" high and 12" wide and 6" deep. The top lid folds back exposing the upper deck controls and a silver knob in the center that, when pulled up, allows the pedalboard to swing down. The various controls are changed on top, while the footswitches on the pedalboard below switch different sections of the controls in and out of the signal path, flip between mono and stereo operation, or bypass the unit entirely. The expression pedal changes the sound dramatically in many different ways depending on which settings you have dialed in... It still lights up like a Christmas Tree when you turn it on though!"

"Serial Number is 1002."

Update via pinkster in the comments: "had one of these in the mid 70's, this may well be the coolest feckin' pedal of all time. lucky enough to have found one via a friend, who's had it in his garage for the last 30 years, pick it up next week. this isn't a synthesizer or a guitar effect, it was meant as an interface unit to process audio thru the control voltage inputs on classic analog synths...you could put vocals, drums, sax, damn near anything thru it and process to your heart's content. luckily for guitarists, it is very guitar friendly...but sadly few specimens exist anymore, most were shipped to school electronic music programs in the late 60's and sadly many were discarded. while they are well worth the price when you can find one, don't expect it to be more than what it is. it features wah, pedal controlled formants, phasing, fuzz and a hefty preamp among other interesting and uncommon sounds. caveats are the mushroom shaped footswitches are impossible to find, however they can be repaired with modern dpdt or 3pdt footswitches. if you can find one, it's not hype, it is absolutely the coolest effect unit possibly ever produced. pink jimi photon"

Update 11/18/22 via pinkster in the comments
" hi guys,
as it turned out, my friend had MY original pII, and i have re-aquired it.

that said, myself, r.g. keene, dino and brian from the diystompboxes forum have CLONED the pII, the first working prototype is working, and the first set of boards has been ordered.
soon, any diy'er handy with a soldering iron can build their own for their private use. the entire project is available on r.g.'s geofex.com website, so get them guns warmed up and whip out the credit card...as in addition to cloning (and a LOT of the info on the schems was wrong compared to the three units me and dino came up with) we've updated to more modern parts where applicable, and it sounds dead on like the originals...i highly reccomend this project to interested parties, looking at about 100$ american for the parts.
peace

Ludwig Phase II guitar synthesizer - A vintage FX pedal

via this auction
"The Phase II, made in limited numbers during 1970-71, is a vintage FX guitar unit. It includes a fuzz, a tremolo (Animation), and a voltage-controlled filtering section (Formant Trajectories-Parallel, Counter, and Vowel switches). The circuit uses only discreet components. A control panel contains seven switches (light/change color) and four sliders which alter several effects, including fuzz, voltage-controlled filters and gating, combined in a box that unfolds to reveal a rocker pedal and four footswitches. There is nothing out there in today's market that duplicates the animation and filtering possibilities. With some practice, many unusual and unique sounds are possible. Some of the effects (including the famous "Yoy, yoy" sound) can be heard on tracks by Primus "Pork Soda", Pearl Jam "Binaural", Sonic Youth "The Diamond Sea", "Washing Machine" and Beck's "Cold Brains" intro.

Specifications:
- Fuzz (includes voice fuzz)
- Animation - FFM, Fuzz RPT or both and Fast/slow start (switches),
Alter Intensity and Rate with three sliders.
- Voltage-Controlled Filtering - "Format Trajectories": Parallel, Counter, Vowel .
- Foot Pedal with Primary and Stereo outputs (Bypass Balance control), Lo/Hi Z inputs
(Lo Z Balance control) plus four foot switches: Stereo, Bypass, Animation, Fuzz f

Product Information:
- Ludwig Phase II Synthesizer
- Model #9000 -- Serial # 1529
- Supply Voltage: 120/240 VAC, 50/60 cycles, 15 watts

Only a few Ludwig Phase II units are still in existence."
