Pics of the inside below.

"Rare vintage 1977 Star Instruments Model PS-3 "Synare 3" analog percussion synthesizer drum. I have owned this drum since 1985. I used it on tour from 1998 to 2004. I hate to sell it, but I no longer play and it's time to sell off my gear for someone else to enjoy. Everything works as it should on this unit. Two brand new 9V batteries are included in this auction. Cosmetically, the drum has typical scratches and wear but still looks good for a 45 year old drum (see pictures). The rubber playing surface has some wear but still has plenty of life left in it (see pictures)."

Synare 3 by Star Instruments. A very broken analog drum synthesizer. Will it work again??

video upload by DeadKoby

"This was an estate auction find... very dirty, moldy, and broken. These are pretty collectable, so let's see if I can fix it up. It's a drum pad from outer space!"

"Synare 3 PS3 Clone Synth Snare/Drum. Lots of fun and sounds awesome. Has a trigger in. You'll need a wall wart type plug for it.

Also, re the low feedback. I set my other eBay account to ‘business’ and can’t seem to switch it back so I’ve set this up as a new personal account. I swear I’m not an axe murderer or anything."

"Walkthrough(ish) of the Synare PS-1 I have for sale on Reverb. There’s only one other video of this on the internet, from like a decade ago...so here’s one more 😬 I didn’t really try to do anything particularly musical with it, but just wanted to give a sense of how it sounds and operates. Sorry the right side of the video is a bit out of focus!

This thing is quite the odd bird. Even though it’s from Synare, it’s not so much a percussion synth like the Synare 3. It’s more a straight monosynth, with 4 tunable multi-zone pads and a bunch of modulation routing. It has all has a pretty wild ring modulator that you can mix into the sound.

One thing I *haven’t* been able to figure out on this particular one is the noise. Not sure if I just don’t have the right sliders up or something but otherwise, it’s in quite amazing shape and sounds great for what it is."

"Selling my insanely rare Synare PS-1

Even though it’s technically a Synare, this is the first model, and it’s not so much a percussion synth like the more widely known Synare 3—but more a straight monosynth, with 4 tunable multi-zone pads and a bunch of modulation. It has all has a pretty wild ring modulator that you can mixed in as well.

It’s in quite amazing shape, both physically and operationally, compared to how dried out and ratty a lot of these old “padded” instruments can get.

Be sure to check out the video I took of it below. It’s like 12 minutes long and I just kinda bang around on it, but you’ll get a sense of some of the dissonant tones you can get out of it.

It has this rad handle on the back/top, I guess so you could carry it on stage, as well as a mount on the bottom for attaching to a drum or percussion stand.

It also has high, low & headphone output on the back and comes in a super sturdy travel case (see pics) which is great, but it means it’s QUITE heavy. Just over 40 lbs in the case.

On the “why very good and not excellent?” Side of things, it’s missing a couple of slider caps on the front, and on the sound side, one thing I *haven’t* been able to figure out on this particular one is the white and pink noise. Not sure if I just don’t have the right sliders up or something but I haven’t been able to get the noise to play through the mixer. Otherwise, though, it’s in quite amazing shape and sounds great.

Shipping is gonna be quite pricey given the weight and size. Be sure to check the pics of the case and the picture of it on the scale...40.2lbs (and that’s before being boxed) so would be great to do pick up I’m person, but we can work something out on shipping for sure"

Origins of a Legend - The Simmons SDS-3 Drum Synthesizer from 1978

Published on Feb 28, 2020 Alex Ball

"A look at the original Simmons Drum Synthesizer, the SDS-3 from 1978.

This instrument was built by Dave Simmons when he was working for a company called Musicaid in the late 70s and it served as the precursor to famous SDS-V with its distinctive hexagonal pads that cropped up on many hit records in the 1980s.

Rare Synare 3 Drum Synth Clone by Ladik.eu

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Rare Synare 3 'UFO' Drum Synth Clone by Ladik.eu in lurid kelly green, a faithful recreation with super solid construction made in the Czech Republic. As used by Joy Division on She's Lost Control and Ultravox on Vienna, also commonly used in dub soundsystems.

Two tunable oscillators and a lowpass filter, capable of self resonance, one oscillator switchable to be a noise generator, one oscillator can be set to modulate the filter frequency for wild metallic FM sounds with high resonance settings. Can be triggered by hitting the pad with a drumstick or sending a trigger sound, with velocity (just send quieter or louder clicks), into the trigger input for more precise timing.

The foam drum pad is slightly dinged in places but everything works as new. Have fitted three foam feet to the base for more stable tabletop use."

Clone of the SYNARE 3 drumsynth. This is the first post to feature Dubsonic.

"A clone of the infamous drum synth 'Synare 3' which was used on countless disco records, and by the likes of Sly & Robbie, along with Stephen Morris from Joy Division. Excellent working condition- however, when I was playing with it the other day, the "SLO"/LFO function for Oscillator 2 abruptly stopped working."

Rare SYNARE HI TOM Percussion Synthesizer SN 19026

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Another super rare Synare not previously featured on the site. This one is the Hi Tom. Also see the Bass here.

"This is an extremely rare original late 1970's-early 1980's Star Synare HI TOM percussion synthesizer. It does not include a power supply, but has been thoroughly tested with a 9 volt power supply and all controls functions great. There are 3 jacks, but the one near the DC plug in was the only one that had output. The other two are a bit corroded and one seems to be slightly smaller than 1/4". It has some cosmetic wear. One screw is missing from the top."

"This is an extremely rare original late 1970's-early 1980's Star Synare Bass percussion synthesizer. It does not include a power supply, but has been thoroughly tested with a 9 volt power supply and everything functions great as it creates AMAZING analog synth bass tones with a double, triple, and continuous "repeat" feature. It has some cosmetic wear. It appears one of the pots has been changed."
