"This is the epic final track from the ambient album 'SOLINA' by Craig Padilla. This improvised spacemusic performance was captured live on three cameras, performed on an ARP SE-IV Electronic Music Synthesizer using COLLIDER and LUNAR effects pedals by Source Audio which run through a long decaying looper plug-in called ElotTronix XL. Everything that you see and hear was performed live in the moment on this classic synthesizer from the 70's without any overdubs.

The ARP SE-IV String Ensemble is a classic synthesizer that was used on many albums by a variety of artists throughout the 70's. Its unique warm sound combined with the right effects makes it inspiring and fun to play."

Everything you see and hear is performed live in the moment without any overdubs.

This cover song series contains my own recreations of my favourite songs from the last 50 years. The original music from which I take inspiration belong to their respective owners. I recreate tracks only for personal passion and to pay homage to these tracks."

"The earliest and best version of the String Ensemble, the archetypal string synth sound. All of the models sound good, but as usual, it's this earliest one (before cost-cutting, bright ideas, and rationalisation kick in) that sounds the best. This is serial number 0088063, made by Eminent before ARP heard how good it was and bought in to a modified design. Cosmetically, like 90% of Solinas, it is not very pretty. The control panel is sadly very faded and messy. But the keys are generally good (two repaired, a few with scuffs), and, most important, the nasty chipboard case, which frequently suffers damage because it is a very heavy instrument, has been replaced with a far better wooden cabinet. Checked and OK'd at VEMIA in March 2024. Packing 25GBP."

Composer Klaus Doldinger cleverly mixed acoustic instruments with synth sounds back in the day. We especially love the driving synth lead and the counter melodies from the strings. Do you need a complex poly synth - or just polyphony and FX?

"There are few synths more simple than the Solina, but can it be extended from its one trick? Can it do what real poly synths do, or at least cover some of the territory by using external effects? And if it successfully delivers a range of bid pad sounds then can interesting little mono synths do the weird stuff and your need for a flagship poly finally end?
After a short intro burble I demo a range of sounds using the Strymon Mobius, Shift Line Astronaut and Erica Synths Acidbox III. They certainly move the Solina out of its usual zone but can't really overcome the lack of envelope control. OTOH the pad thing is well covered. It it enough to end Big Poly GAS?
