"Spent this piece of music about six hours in this evening. All synth sounds by VX90 and drums by Akai Rhythm Wolf. Boss RC-505 looping, fx and master midi clock driven by RW. Again Prophet 12 midi master keyboard: ) Nikon D3200 videorecorder. This is a dynamic duo with two Akai's analog musical instruments. Composed, played and arranged by me in Studio Tupos. Both perfectly working, excellent condition, except S900 back panel has minot dent and one of S900 rack ears slightly bent (see pictures)

Connection cable was hard to find, paid $80. Gold pins."

"Akai VX90 Analogue Synth with Midi. This is the Sound Module version of the Akai AX73. A 6 Voice VCO/VCF synth that is also similar in sound to the AX60 but with Velocity Sensitivity.

This synth is fully working and sounds great. The overall condition is fairly good except for some minor scratches you would associate with its age. The display is a little dim like many older akai's but easily readable. There is some tape residue on the top of the synth as in the photo but with a bit of time and scrubbing could be removed if important to you.

An unusual feature of this synth is an input that allows you to connect to certain earlier Akai samplers such as the S900 and the S950 and use them as a 2nd oscilator, via an Akai DIN connector, for more unusual sound synthesis. However this module has been Modded to include an input jack that allows you to use any sampler ( which with the current prices of the S900/S950s is a good thing) or audio midi sound source as well. I have opened it up and the mod has been been done to a good standard and does not affect the other operations of the unit."

"The sought after MIDI equipped six-voice analog synth in 2U rack format.

With an identical voice structure to the AX73, the VX90 is little more than a rack-mount version. It is a MIDI equipped six-voice analog synthesizer with advanced digital controls and functions. Like the AX73 it has an auto-tune function and a really nice VCF lowpass/hipass filter and envelope section. The VX90's memory capacity holds up to 100 patches. It can be played polyphonically or in a stacked unison mode for that thick lead sound for your rave and techno anthems. A really cool feature of the VX90 is that you can plug the Akai S-612, S-900 and S-950 samplers in to it and run their samples through the VX90's analog filter and envelope sections."

"SIX FULLY CONTROLLABLE ANALOG OSCILLATORS (TWICE THAT OF A MINIMOOG)

TWO FULLY ANALOG FILTERS, one is 24dB/Oct 4-pole (capable of cutting much deeper than most filters) and has a rare feature allowing the cutoff to be modulated by the VCO.

UNIQUE in that it is full-blooded 6 OSCILLATOR ANALOG SYNTHESIZER equipped with MIDI for easy integration into modern studios.

The VX90 is the rack version of the AX73. It has MIDI split capability, 100 memory slots, and accomodates equipped AKAI SAMPLERS for creating totally new sounds by editing sampler data or mixing samples with the ANALOG internal sources. (Includes AKAI S-61, S-900, S-950 samplers.) Samples can be processed through the VX90's analog filters and envelopes.

Resonant filters on 80s Akai samplers | How to do it

"The early S-samplers from Akai did not have resonant filters, but by hooking them up to Akai synths at the time you could still achieve it. The individual voices from the sampler goes out a special connector at the back called "Voice out". All the 80s Akai samplers features this connector. With the appropriate cable you took the output here and connected it to the "Sampler In" on one of the Akai synths of the time.
The Akai AX60, AX73, VX90 and VX600 has these "Sampler In" ports at the back. The AX80 does not, just so you're aware. The AX80 was Akai's first synth and it preceded their first sampler, the S612 and is in many ways the odd one in their catalogue."

"This song is made by four Akai musical equipments ME20A midi sequence arpeggiator, VX90 midi sound module, Rhythm Wolf analog drum machine and Timbre Wolf analog synthesizer with a helping hand of me and Boss RC-505 looper.
Instruments used:

VX90 & ME20A making arpeggio with reverb.
VX90 two pads with chorus.
Rhythm Wolf analog drums with reverb.
Timbre Wolf synth bass with RC-505 chorus and lead with Boss Super Chorus.
Akai ME20A midi sequencing synced to RC-505.
Boss RC-505 looping, midi master clock and fx, tempo was 112,5.
Mackie 802 VLZ3 for mixing and Nikon D3200 videorecorder.
Composed, played and arranged by me in Studio Tupos 2: )

"AKAI VX-90 rack. It sounds amazing and is 100% functional. It comes from a clean smoke free home. It comes with the original rack ears and hardware. This is a VCO synth with a lot of cool features. All of the waves have pulse width. You can stack half or all of the voices in unison and then detune them for a super fat sound. Its really easy to edit from the front panel. It also has an input to process external audio form AKAI samplers. The only thing worth mentioning it that the power cord has been shortened to fit in a rack, it does not affect the synth whatsoever."
