"This synth is like a deluxe Roland SH-2000 preset, mono synth.

Works great.

The scan of the ad is from March 1979 Contemporary Keyboard magazine. So, even though the original Roland SH-2000 is from the mid-1970's. The Multivox MX-880 was sold beginning in 1979.

The Multivox MX-880 is almost exactly the same as the Roland SH-2000. But, the extra oscillator is what makes this synth better than the SH-2000. You can choose any frequency within the range (3rd, 5th, 6th, octave or any frequency in between) or select Unison for a thicker/phased sound.

Voices: Tuba, Trombone, French Horn, Trumpet, Saxophone, Clarinet, Accordion, Bassoon, Oboe, Flute, Song Whistle, Singing Voice, Cello, Violin, Bass Guitar, Hawaiian Guitar, Banjo, Fuzz Guitar 1, Fuzz Guitar 2, Harpsichord, Piano, Xylophone, Vibraphone, Percolate (called Pop Corn on Roland SH-2000), Space Reed, Outer Space (called Planet on Roland SH-2000), Frogman, Alley Cat (called Funny Cat on Roland SH-2000), Ring Modulator (may be the same as Growl Wow on Roland SH-2000), Wind.

The MX-2000 name is covered with an MX-880 sticker on the front. This was probably due to a complaint from Roland because it looks too similar."

"This synth is like a suped-up Roland SH-2000 preset, mono synth.

It looks good, was recently serviced and works great. Some cosmetic issues:
- Two voice tabs are broken (Fuzz Guitar 2 and Harpsichord). Fuzz Guitar 2 tab was glued back together. Both switches work (you can swap the tabs with whichever ones you use the least)
- Missing one, black slider cap.

The Multivox MX-2000 has almost exactly the same features and voices as the Roland SH-2000:
- Touch Volume (Off/On)
- Touch Wow (Off/On)
- Touch Growl (Off/On)
- Touch Vibrato (Off/On)
- Touch Pitch Bend (Up/Off/Down)
- Repeat (Off/On)

"Roland SH-2000 Synthesizer - Vintage Analogue Synth - Pristine cosmetic condition

Comes complete with original Roland music rest lead and UK plug, and original Roland instruction manual.

This has been in my family sibnce purchased around 1976. It was bought by my parents to accompany their Hammond home organ. It has been used in my parents house only and never gigged or used by anyone outside of the family. They purchased it to replace a Roland SH-1000 which they found too complicated ( see my other auction for the SH-1000)

As a result this synth is in excellent condition with only some minor marks and wear visible on the master volume markings (see photo).

it has effectively been mothballed in my parents house since around 1987 and more latterly in my house until now. I really have no use for either synth and feel sure someone will be able get some great sounds and enjoyment out of it hence the reluctant sale"

Like the 1000, it is a single-oscillator monophonic analog preset synthesizer designed to sit atop a home organ. This SH-2000 was meticulously cleaned/serviced internally by our in-house technician:

-Replaced all electrolytic capacitors.
-Cleaned and tinned traces and hard wired sub-modules to main PCB.
-Cleaned all switches

"Works good (including after-touch sensor). Keys are severely yellowed from age.

You can customize the presets using the "Manual Filter" switch and "Modulation", "Cutoff Frequency" and "Resonance" sliders to get huge leads, fat basses and percussive SFX out of this little beast. You can even process external sound through the filter using the 1/4" input jack on back.

It's like a super Roland SH-2000 because it has very similar sounds and layout with the addition of a second oscillator for thick double sound or variable interval (5th, 3rd or whatever you choose up to an octave above or below)."

Original Roland SH-3a Analog Synth

"These monophonic synths came with a collection of new and interesting features, but also retain solid analog synth sound... Think SH-101 in terms of sound. The filter is also somewhat Moog-y, real smooth. The SH3 combines subtractive and additive synthesis, using a 5-octave mixable source oscillator. I've never seen anything quite like it. There is also a pink/white noise generator. This routes into the envelope and amplifier sections, each can be enveloped with the ADSR section, or with preset envelopes. These can also all be modded by 2 LFOs with 3 possible wave forms! And finally, add to this the craziest feature of them all, the "Sampler" Section. I'm still not entirely sure how this works, but it's roughly like an arpeggiator. In any case it can do some craaaazy sounds!"

The SH3 has a diode based ladder filter with five stages.
The SH3a has Ladder Filter with four transistor stages (more moogish than the SH-3).

The rumours that the version change of the SH-3a were caused by a law suit with moog, are wrong. In fact the SH-2000 is the only Roland synth which used a quite complete clone of the moog cascade filter. According to several knwoledged people on Analogue Heaven maillist the SH-2000 was the instrument that caused infringment of Robert Moogs patent.

"Roland SH-2000 from the early 70s, the second synthesizer ever made by Roland. It is a monophonic anologue synthesizer with 30 preset sounds. They can be modified with the "borrowed" Moog ladder filter built in, that can also be modulated by an LFO. Additionally portamento, vibrato, pitch bend, volume and master tuning are available, as well as a "WOW" and a Growl effect. All these should be assignable to aftertouch, but is not working as intended I think. The pins at the bottom of the note stand broke off as seen in the pictures. The synth was tested, is in great condition and comes with original wooden case that it was sold in."

"The SH-2000 is a very old and limited but funky analog synth. It has a bunch of preset sounds selected from those ugly green, red and white buttons beneath the keyboard. The sliders give you control of the filter cut-off, resonance, modulation, and sustain. Amazingly however, this 1973 synth has aftertouch which can be assigned to the filter or pitch or to the 'GROWL' sound (growling is what this synth is best for). The SH-2000 is great for squeaky effects and growling bass notes

"Great Looking 1970's Vintage Roland SH-2000 Analog Synthesizer Keyboard. It was found packed away in storage at a local Estate Sale. I doubt the previous owner has played it within the past few years. Its in Very Good/Excellent condition cosmetically, all knobs & controls are original & intact. Its been well cared for by the previous owner. I've tested all the functions, playing it through my amp, and it works fine. You may choose to have it cleaned, since it sat unplayed for so long."

"The SX-2000 Synthetone is an analog monophonic synthesizer. This type of late 1970's synthesizer design (with the knobs, sliders and switches in front of the keyboard) was also seen in the Roland SH-1000, SH-2000, Minimoog and Elka Soloist. The SX-2000 has 7 presets which include: synthy, harpsichord, flute, clarinet, violin, trumpet and piano. Presets are selected via the red switches towards the left of the keyboard. All the preset sounds can be manipulated.

It features a single VCO, switchable over four octaves and equipped with four waveforms (sawtooth, square, and two rectangular). The VCF is a simple low-pass filter with cut-off and resonance (emphasis) and can be modulated by the LFO or one of 3 preset envelope effects. The VCA can also be modulated by these 3 preset envelope effects which include: repeat (which constantly repeats AD envelope), ASR (with sustain), AD (without sustain). The LFO can modulate the oscillator or the filter with either square or triangle waveforms. Finally a Portamento effect is on-board for those elastic synth sounds."

"Two catalogs one from what looks like 1979 and the other from 1977. 1979 has 40+ pages and in color gloss in English. The 1977 is Black and White newsprint style 14+ pages in Japanese. Both complete no tears. The 1977 has some writing in it (see pic9) patch tab names."
