Backrooms - The Complex: Expedition | an Anomalous Dimension #backrooms

video upload by No Lake

"Another reality, an alternative dimension, a corrupted memory.

Back in 2019, an anonymous user shared a blurry, unsettling photo of a dimly lit, empty hallway with monochrome yellow wallpaper, damp carpet, and fluorescent ceiling lights. Then, another user replied with a short caption stating that if you aren't careful you will end up in the Backrooms…

'The Backrooms' is a fictional, endless maze of empty, disorienting rooms characterized by these monochrome yellow walls, damp carpet, and fluorescent lights. Anyone can accidentally leave the boundaries of normal reality and fall into this infinite dimensional space. That's where the game “The Complex: Expedition” begins. That’s where the nightmare begins. That’s where my music enters the scene.

LOOK MUM WITH COMPUTER #synthjam

video upload by No Lake

"There are hardware enthusiasts, those who prefer a DAWless setup and then those who no longer need physical synths and do everything via software, and so on. Personally, I’m a staunch advocate of both worlds—hardware and software—and I believe the best results come from combining them. I am simply opposed to AI-generated music. It’s nothing personal against AI in general, which can be absolutely brilliant, but it’s just not my cup of tea when it comes to music. I also think that 100% digital is often a bit flat, soulless, but that's just my opinion. What about you?

Seventies Synth Songs on the Novation Peak (with free soundbank)

video upload by TheGuacamoleXplosion

"Partial covers of synth-focused tracks from each year of the 1970s on the Novation Peak. No talking.

All synth sounds (including most electronic drum sounds) in this video are pure Novation Peak: Presets created from scratch, recorded directly through RME audio interfaces into Cubase, with no track effects added to any of the Peak tracks, not even EQ or panning (only exceptions: on Autobahn, the cluster Vocoder is two tracks hard-panned in the DAW; and the bass on the final part has a bit of treble shelved off with the Cubase stock EQ).

The soundbank for the Novation Peak (should also be compatible with the Novation Summit) as well as the individual sounds and the 1 User Wavetable I used in the “AnimAutobahn” faux vocoder patches can be downloaded here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folder...

00:00 - Intro: Autobahn, Part C
02:57 - 1970: Emerson, Lake & Palmer — Lucky Man
04:22 - 1971: The Who — Won’t Get Fooled Again
05:17 - 1972: Hot Butter — Popcorn
06:52 - 1973: Pink Floyd — Any Colour You Like
08:13 - 1973: Pink Floyd — On The Run
09:58 - 1974: Kraftwerk — Autobahn (Parts A & B)
13:47 - 1975: Pink Floyd — Welcome To The Machine
17:46 - 1976: Jean Michel Jarre — Oxygène (Part IV)
19:34 - 1977: Weather Report — Birdland
20:15 - 1978: Parliament — Flash Light
22:21 - 1979: Supertramp — Child Of Vision

"Mesmeric Trance" - Moog Sound Studio & Novation Summit trippy jam

video upload by No Lake

"I remember a night in a club in Brussels. It must have been 4 a.m., I was starting to get tired, about to leave. Then a song started, something very languorous, trippy, and intoxicating. The song invaded my body and soul. It was very repetitive but at the same time very special, airy, ethereal. I stayed there, lulled by the music, and then I left, thinking ten minutes had passed. The song had lasted an hour.

Nothing is more frustrating than a song that sets an atmosphere, a mood, and then disappears, leaving us hanging. This is why I like longer tracks.

Brussels School Diaries, Day 6 : "Draco" | original electronic music jam

video upload by No Lake

"'The Universe is under no obligation to make sense to you'. (Neil deGrasse Tyson)

As far as I'm concerned, 2025 will have been marked by the rise of a musical movement that defines me, that suits me. A movement that I arbitrarily named Brussels School, in a very unmodest homage to the Berlin School movement.

For me, electronic music must above all be a piece that takes you on a journey, a piece with a soul that tells a story, not a technical sound demo or some random AI soup...

So, let me remind you how I define this movement. And again, I'm not claiming it's new or exceptional; it's simply the style of electronic music I like to produce and listen to. The album in early 2026 will simply be the conclusion of all my work in 2025.

'Brussels School' can be defined in this way: "haunting and captivating electronic music. A fusion between trance music and electro-ambient. Hypnotic vibrations that transport you. A paradoxically warm and cold magnetism, a refined sound that lulls the listener into a long, minimalist, repetitive and yet captivating and trippy rhythm"

Brussels School Diaries, Day 5 : "Icy Nucleus" | original electronic music jam

video upload by No Lake

"This is the penultimate 'live' jam recorded for the incoming album. The other songs are already written as well, but they will be revealed on the final album. I will now start the long mix and mastering process and hope to release the album at the beginning of 2026, basically one year after my latest album “Speaking of Analog” that you welcomed in an incredible way!

So, what's the philosophy of this story compared to the previous one? Well, the idea is to step outside the 'ambient' framework to bring a slightly more "electro" touch, but without betraying my vision of electro-ambient. It won’t be EDM. An alternation of long, intoxicating pieces with shorter, more rhythmic ones like this one.
But in the end, all of this is just the continuation of a story that has brought me here with you."

"Trying to forge a movement, a style, and stay true to the original plan is not easy. The more I work on it, the better I understand it. The more I'm around it, the more I appreciate it. Next year's album is slowly taking shape, note by note. Emotion after emotion. Improvised jam after improvised jam.
