Something Dark in the Woods
Published on Sep 28, 2017 HardtekStudios
"With summer dying and fall taking over, the creepy things have begun to spread. In this track the Tom Cat and Circuit Mono Station are run thru the TP-2 for some Tube Overdrive & Optical Compression. The Circuit is playing clean. All tracks run thru the Mackie Onyx mixer and then recorded into Logic. Once in Logic, everything is mixed using Compression, EQ and a reverb send. Everything is synced via midi."

Make Noise 0-Coast & 9U System, Elektron Analog RYTM - "DARS II"
Published on Sep 25, 2016 Ted James Butler
"A little drum & bass with the Make Noise 9U, 0-Coast and Elektron Analog RYTM.
Rene is sequencing the Telharmonic. Pressure Points has control over the DPO and 0-Coast. 0-Coast is running through a Malekko Ekko 616 Analog Delay, Earthquaker Devices Ghost Echo & The Warden before hitting the 9U system. 9U system audio out is being fed to the Analog RYTM and being compressed against the rhythm track. Audio is recorded direct into Logic via a Mackie ONYX with no additional processing.

Raw Timbre Wolf
Published on Jun 22, 2016 HardtekStudios
"This video is as raw of a taste of the Akai Timbre Wolf that I can legally serve you. Even though each synth haste's own individual output, with this demonstration I have all four synth tracks coming out of the mono Mix ouput. The signal is patched into my Mackie Onyx 1640i mixer that has a firewire output (yea I know) going strait into my iMac running Logic. The signal was then bounced without any processing and synced to the video in iMovie. Prepare for plenty of individual track processing (mangling) in the next video."

ACiD CrAsH (Tom Cat, Volca Bass, KP3, MF Drive & Digitech Weapon)

"Download the audio track for FREE here-https://soundcloud.com/hardtek-studio...
Akai Tom Cat output is going into left in of Korg Kaoss Pad 3 and Korg Volca Bass is going into Moog Minifooger Drive pedal, then into right in of KP3. Headphone out of Tom Cat is going into Digitech Weapon pedal then into the mic in of the KP3, so with the flick of the switch I can go from drum & bass mix to demolished drums. KP3 effect is a phaser & delay. Output of KP3 is going into Mackie Onyx mixer which then feeds into Logic Pro for recording & mixing."

"Download the audio track for FREE here- https://soundcloud.com/hardtek-studio...
Mangling some samples and my DSI Evolver with the Elektron Octatrack. The Evolver is synced to the Octatrack and routed into the 1st two input of the Octatrack. The Octatrack output is then going into the Mackie Onyx mixer which routes the mix strait into Logic Pro for a lil bit O' EQ compression and a dash of reverb."

Twisted Beats & Bitr Seqs
Published on Aug 26, 2015 HardtekStudios
"Download the audio track for FREE here- https://soundcloud.com/hardtek-studio...
In this track, I have the Korg Volca Beats going thru the Korg KP3 playing a tape delay effect. The DSI Evolver is running thru the Alesis Bitrman, utilizing it's distortion, squashing compression, and occational tweaks from the dual phaser & FM (frequency modulator). All this is going into a Mackie Onyx mixer then recorded into Logic, where I add some compression, Eq, & a dash of Reverb."

AmbienTRON 2: Battery Brutality
Published on Aug 19, 2015 HardtekStudios
"Download the Audio track for FREE here- https://soundcloud.com/hardtek-studio...
The blinky thing in the upper right corner is a Bit Blob 2, and come from Bleep Labs. Visit their website here- http://bleeplabs.com/
The Bleep Labs Bit Blob 2 is a drone synth controlled by connecting alligator clips to bolts attached to the circuits. The chain starts with the Bit Blob 2, then goes into the Korg Monotron for rhythmic filtering, then into the Boss Hyper Fuzz for some brutal distortion, then into the Monotron Delay for more filtering and tape echo. This whole chain then goes into a mackie Onyx mixer than brings it into Logic Pro for recording and a little bit of Compression, EQ & a dash of Verb."

MySynthFetish HS80 Select Patches
Published on Apr 19, 2015 The Outsider
"This video offers a preview 14 of the 64 sounds I programmed for the Roland HS-80, although they are compatible with the Alpha-Juno 2 and MKS-50.
(The sysex is available via the link at the end of this description)
Crappily improvised live, recorded into Logic Pro X through Mackie Onyx 1602i mixer, with a bit of effects from a Sony HR-MP5. Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. Look, I programmed the sounds dry, but 90% of the time play with effects on my sounds because: Yes, you do. And, I thought of playing all 64 sounds, but after the first few I realized I was already past 5 minutes, so... 14 will do.
The story behind this particular HS-80 is a rather interesting one, and can be found here:
Part 1: http://mysynthfetish.tumblr.com/post/...
Part 2: http://mysynthfetish.tumblr.com/post/...
Part 3: http://mysynthfetish.tumblr.com/post/...
Patches used:
1-1 GrowlyBass. Pretty much what the name implies.
1-2 Muster. Inspired by Das Muster (who is a JU-2 genius).
1-3 LongPWMpad. No surprises here. Long. PWM. Pad.
1-5 SickStrings. Typical Juno strings, but with seasickness.
1-6 Brass Swell. Though not all that brassy. Low notes are nice.
1-8 PolySynth3. Common 80s polysynth sound? Hmm. Ok.
2-1 ScubaSweep. Inverted envelope trickery.
2-4 DarkFuture. Late 70s Sci-Fi feeling? Brassy? Ominous.
2-5 StepSeqMe. Quick, sharp sound in need of sequencing.
2-6 WeirdNoise. Noisy, resonant weirdness.
2-8 ChoiKowai. Means "A bit scary" in Japanese. Very modulated.
5-3 Zukunft3. Step sequence sound?
5-4 Zukunft4. Low pad filter sweep-ish sound?
5-5 BldRnrBras. Might make Vangelis happy. Maybe.
5-3 and 5-4 are modeled after sounds in Anthony Rother's track Zukunft off the excellent LP Netzwerk Der Zukunft.

Saul Williams Remix via intervenus

"Since the track was available for remix via NIN, I decided to give it a shot. I'm a fan of Saul Williams, and I wanted to test out some of my gear. I have only used one slice of Saul's vocal track. The rest of this is entirely re-composed. Gear I used on this was running my Boss DR-880 through the Future Retro XS in overdrive, triggering the env generators. This gave me the main distorted kick. The rest comes from the Alpha Juno 2 and my Sh2 running through an alesis compressor, MPX 1, and into my Onyx mixer."
You can find the track on intervenus.

Hataken Interview

Back on March 31, I put up a post on Hataken, a Japanese DJ artist who primarily uses analog synths. At the time, Shane Chisolm, the manager of Don Juan Dracula mentioned Hataken was working on a remix version of DJD's "Take Me Home". Shane asked me if I'd be interested in doing an interview with Hataken, and I thought why not. It would be interesting to hear his perspective on the world of synths as a live DJ artist. The following is the result of that interview. Note, this is a long one. You will want to use page down to scroll through. If it is too long for you, I recommend reading one or two questions each time you visit the site. Each DIY item below would typically have been a separate post. There is a lot of interesting stuff here. That said, I start with an introduction followed by asking Hataken how it all started for him. Note the focus is primarily on synths as this site is about everything synth, and Hataken delivers. The gear he has both worked with and designed to meet his specific needs is overwhelming. There's also an interesting interlude on experimenting with frequency counters to produce specific frequencies of sound known to have healing properties, and of course there is a bit of the age old discussion of digital and analog.
Before we start the interview, I want to thank Hataken for taking the time out for this, and I want to thank Shane for suggesting it. It's a fascinating history of a DJ synth artist with interesting perspectives that I'm sure I will come back to over time. Be sure to check out the video and link to more at the end. And of course be sure to check out Hataken's website.
1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
