Torso Live Session #5: Ctrls

video upload by torso electronics

"Torso Electronics presents the fifth live session recorded at our office space in Copenhagen.

In this episode, Copenhagen-based artist Ctrls presents a live set built entirely around the S4, using the samples he created for the factory sound library.

Ctrls: “It's composed without any sequencing, only looping and modulation, which is a totally new way of working for me, but which the S4 makes really fun and engaging. The Ableton Push 3 and Intech midi controller act as a my mixer and finalizer, and I'm triggering and effecting some drones and fx sounds from its launch grid. It was a great experience and I'm happy I got to exercise a less clubby side to my music. Big thanks to the Torso team for the opportunity.”

About Ctrls
The Ctrls project was founded In 2012. From the first release the presence of a highly individual sonic style was apparent and his fast paced and futuristic techno based sound has now been well established with a stream of respected music on labels such as Token Records, Earwiggle, Micron Audio, Mechatronica and Key Vinyl. A lifelong devotee of electronic dance music, DJ’ing and live performance are central for the project. This has resulted in many involved sets at globally notable venues such as Tresor, Berghain, Khidi, Fabric, Kit Kat, Fold, Basement NY, and Club Drugstore as well a residency at Copenhagens purest electronic venue: Den Anden Side. The future holds a wider scope as electro, breakbeats, noise and audio visual components are folded into the distinctive Ctrls sound palette."

Torso Live Session #4: A. Dixen

video upload by torso electronics

"Torso Electronics presents the fourth live session recorded at our office space in Copenhagen.

In this episode, A. Dixen takes a minimalist approach to his live setup, using the S4, T1, Elektron Octatrack, Elektron Model:Cycles, Eventide Space and Boss DD-500 Digital Delay.

With the S4 being the newest addition to the setup, A. Dixen focuses on exploring and utilising it as much as possible, while relying on the T1 as the creative centrepiece for structuring and sequencing the instruments connected.

About A. Dixen
A standard bearer for the fusion of Copenhagen’s latent experimentalism with a more club-forward sensibility, A.Dixen - the moniker of Copenhagen’s Anders Dixen - is a project neither rigid nor bound, expressing instead a path of development which follows that of his own mental intrigue. It is an effort in condensing years experienced at a wide vantage and spectrum of musicality, to refine it into something delivered with measured intent.

From driving u.k. techno and bass-weighted percussive tek to liminal dub abstactions and a kind of obtuse psych-minimalism, there lies in Dixen a freedom of movement and play expressed like currents in his mental wind. Whether via the introspection of scattered polyrhythms paired with dense atmospheres or through straight 4-to-the-floor thump, there is a coherent sonic thread which strings these diverse modes together, one bound oft in modular synthesis and analogue experimentalism. Despite this headsy proclivity, he is just as likely set to rights by the weather, the time, the space; sun beams through rafters calling forth an early tech-house attitude, a deep-house swagger, a steppers inclination borne out in more recent radio outings and club sets.

Through A.dixen we find entire multitudes, a reservoir channeled through an adaptive seekers sentiment into something singular. Forward, ever beyond.

Torso Live Session #3: Lorenzo Colombo

video upload by torso electronics

"Torso Electronics presents the third live session recorded at our office space in Copenhagen.

In this episode, percussionist and sound artist Lorenzo Colombo presents an electroacoustic concert featuring the T1 and S4 in a hybrid setup combining metal percussion instruments and solenoids.

The performance is driven by the T1, used as both sequencer and live MIDI keyboard. It controls the SOMA Pulsar-23 and a set of dadamachines solenoids. The solenoids hit a set of Kolberg percussion bell plates, which function simultaneously as acoustic instruments and conductive metallic surfaces. Through body-resistance and circuit-bending interactions, these plates influence electrical signals and directly modulate the Pulsar-23 as well as generates MIDI that control the same instrument . All audio is routed into the S4, used as the sole sound-shaping and modulation unit.

About Lorenzo Colombo
Lorenzo Colombo is a Copenhagen-based percussionist, performer, and sound artist dedicated to contemporary and experimental music. He teaches percussion and post-instrumental performance at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, where he earned his Soloist Diploma in 2023. A recipient of the Léonie Sonning Talent Prize and Musikanmelderringens Kunstnerpriser, Lorenzo was also part of Statens Kunstfond’s Den Unge Kunstneriske Elite program (2023–24)."

Torso Live Session #2: Mike Sheridan

video upload by torso electronics

"Torso Electronics presents the second live session recorded at our office space in Copenhagen.

This episode features Mike Sheridan, unfolding a 14-minute meditative dronescape of slow, evolving resonance. Subtle layers of frequency drift and intertwine, forming a weightless sonic field that invites for deep attentive listening. Performed on the Pin Portabella MK IIIe, the Z.Vex Instant Lo-Fi Junky Vexter, the Boss GE-10, and the S4 Sculpting Sampler.

About Mike Sheridan
Mike Sheridan has been a part of the Copenhagen electronic music scene since the mid 00’s. He entered the scene, barely in his teens, with his landmark debut album I Syv Sind (In Two Minds, 2008). Sheridan traced an ambient and dreamy approach, and with limited tools at hand, he constructed a teenage masterwork that few could have predicted. Among the first in his generation, Mike Sheridan launched his career to high acclaim, effectively crossing over to mainstream audiences.
