Cheetah SpecDrum (ZX Spectrum Peripheral) Demo

Published on Mar 28, 2013 snolan1990·26 videos

"This is a demonstration of the Cheetah SpecDrum, drum machine software & hardware combo for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48k. This add on was released in 1986 and achieved moderate success by providing Spectrum owners a fully fledged PCM drum machine for significantly less than the cost of a new stand alone drum machine at the time.

Both Spectrums & SpecDrums can be found at relatively low prices however the need to load the software on each start up and connect the spectrum to a TV to display the interface coupled with the lack of MIDI means that, unless you are truly oldschool, samples might legitimately be the best way to utilise the SpecDrum sounds.

Despite all the downsides of the SpecDrum the sounds are undeniably punchy and the interface, while slightly clunky, does work well."

Note one is for the cased version and one is for the module version.

"Station X is a compact "mini-modular" synthesiser. It contains all the essential ingredients to form complete synth patches.

Think of it as a mini Red Square or Tereshkova (two other, larger modular synths we produce). In fact, a mini Red Square is a good analogy. If has the same filter and similar key features (though Red Square is 2 VCO).

Station X is ideal for beginners who want to dip their toes into the world of modular synths, the travelling producer who wants to take a true analogue modular synth around to different sessions, or home musician who perhaps is limited for space.

Station-X comes with 5 splitter leads, so you can feed a signal (source) to 2 destinations. This is like having 5 mini-multiple modules built in.

Components

MIDI to CV Converter (so you can play it from MIDI).
Voltage Controlled Oscillator with pulse width control input.
Low Pass 'Moog' style filter, 24dB/oct.
Voltage Controlled Amplifier (wired in series to the VCF).
Envelope Generator.
VC Low Frequency Oscillator. Four waveforms and CV controlled of frequency.
Noise Generator.
Sample and Hold.
Features

Pure analogue voice circuitry
Fully patchable
Compact modular synth
Available as a module (without case)
Plenty of modulation possibilities
Rugged steel construction.
MIDI In for software sequencer / keyboard control."

"The SK is almost identical to the S. But with the addition of a MIDI controller keyboard.

Differences between Leipzig-S/SK and the original Leipzig

Envelopes are now full ADSR
EGs can be disconnected from MIDI trigger
VCO2 can be disconnected from MIDI (free running modulator!)
Analogue step sequencer
VCF can be modulated from either EG1 or EG2
Features

Pure analogue voice and modulation circuitry
Fat Moog style transistor ladder filter
2 x VCOs with glide and sub-VCOs
Plenty of modulation routing possibilities
Analogue step sequencer with plenty of clocking options
Audio input so can be used as a sound processor
Rugged steel/aluminium construction
MIDI input for software sequencer control
LCD to enable editing of keyboard set-up (transpose, pitch bend range, retrig, etc)
Internal power supply
Because each parameter is not under solid CPU control, each parameter has that tiny analogue drift that adds so much to character
None of the parameters or controls are quantised. So when you turn a knob, you are turning a resistor that affects a real analogue circuits"

Quick note: I don't want to get into policing auctions but I heard the price for this one is a little high. Perfect Circuit usually has great prices imo, so I will check with them.

Update: I heard back. They are following MAP prices set in place by the manufacturer according to a recent price change. They aren't allowed to lower the price and they do ship for free.

Original post description:
"Coming Analogue Solutions are proud to announce availability of Leipzig-S, the latest addition to its lengthening line of critically-acclaimed, quality-crafted boutique designs from founder Tom Carpenter in the true spirit of vintage analogue synthesisers befitting the true analogue synth enthusiast.

Evolving from its namesake Leipzig (rack-mounting) and Leipzig-k (keyboard-endowed) analogue monosynth predecessors, the rack-mountable/tabletop Leipzig-S literally goes several steps further by incorporating an in-built eight-step analogue sequencer that can be used to produce simple melodic lines as well as acting as a modulation source to affect the filter cutoff (or to create additional effects, depending on other control settings). VCO1, VCO2, and the VCF are all available as sequencer destinations; seemingly simple, yet favourably flexible, the step sequencer can be creatively controlled (clocked) by multiple sources, at audio frequencies (using VCO2 as a clock source), or using the output of the sequencer itself as an audio source to be played via MIDI while the eight step controls then alter the waveform/tonal content, for example, such are the adventurous advantages of packaging an analogue step sequencer with a true analogue monosynth.

The entire design is traditional early-eighties analogue (voice and modulation) circuitry, comprised entirely of discrete components and op-amps (bar, of course, the digital sequencer controller and MIDI-CV interfacing); since the Leipzig-S is a strictly no-memory affair, all controls are not quantised, resulting in an authentically vintage sound, replete with musically desirable quirks and subtle artifacts (much in the same way that, say, a valve amp or vinyl record adds sonic character), unlike some other modern analogue synths that arguably sound almost as perfect as DSP analogue modelling.

With electronic percussion having influenced the choice of routings, the Leipzig-S boasts a huge range of modulation possibilities to facilitate creating the widest possible range of sounds, including deep basses, sound effects, analogue loops and (obviously) electronic drum sounds. With this, his latest design, true analogue synth enthusiast Tom Carpenter is confident that he has achieved a modern analogue synth that truly does sound vintage.

Features

Pure analogue voice and modulation circuitry
2 x VCOs (each with Glide and Sub-VCOs)
Osc sync and cross-mod
Flexible modulation routing
Rugged steel/aluminium construction
Leipzig-S modulation choices provide for good drum possibilities"

Analogue Solutions Telemark V2

"Introducing the Telemark V2! New features include VCO-Subs and Ring-Mod.

Telemark is a rack mount version of the Semblance mononsynth with the addition of signal patch points. Will run from MIDI or sequence it the analogue way - use our Oberkorn, ideal partnership! Comes with rack mount brackets.

The patch points are 3.5mm with 5v range, one volt per octave. Currently at the Noisebug studio we are running the Telemark with an Analogue Solutions Oberkorn3 sequencer. It’s quite fun and getting synthesizer action is instant and patching isn’t required.

The Telemark is robust in frequency. There is a good amount of clarity including while filtering. On the bottom end, the bass breaks up nicely at the right time. The bass frequency doesn’t resonate in the lofty or boomy territory but very acceptable for most recording environments and noticeably better than the typical modular VCO. The Telemark has a pleasing tone all of its own but would sound closest to the old Oberheim sound. The design is logically laid out and we adapted to it very quickly.

Inspired by the Oberheim SEM, this monophonic module features 2 audio osc + seperate lfo, a complicated multimode filter, mixer and 2 env generators. It also features a POLY mode allowing you to chain 4 SEMblances."

Analogue Solutions Europa MIDI Step Sequencer

via this auction
Perfect Circuit Audio (RSS)

"Europa is a hardware sequencer, it does not contain a 'sound engine'. It has been designed from the ground up to be utilised with your MIDI synths, analogue modular, drum brains and drum machines.

Eurpoa was designed to be utilised with our SQ8 and Oberkorn analogue sequencers (and anything else with a compatible clock input).

Either use the main sync out or one of the seven trigger outputs to clock your analogue sequencers. Have them step whenever you like by programming triggers into the Europa sequencer. You can have 2 sequencers play alternately. You can mute the track so the Oberkorn/SQ8 sequencer stops! Use another trigger and you can activate the reset feature of the Oberkorn/SQ8!

Features

Intuitive and simple programming procedure
No sub-menus or shift keys - one function per key
Simple to use - TR808/606 style programming.
Analogue features - analogue tempo clock, 7 analogue trigger outs, analogue sync signals
Live editing features
Transpose, Octave shift, Mute
Rugged steel construction"
