ios7 allows midi interfaces over USB on an iPhone?

Published on Oct 4, 2013 Gaz Williams·15 videos

"A little trumpeted feature of ios7 on the iPhone is the ability to use a camera connection kit which facilitates audio and midi interfaces to be connected over USB. Fantastic news for micro studios on the go!"

Update: via Moogulator of seqeuncer.de in the comments: "uhm, no - i tried anything adaptor 30pin/lightning, the new CamKit for Lightning on iPhone 5 - they all don't work - I Phone says 'is not supported' or just nothing.. so.. don't know what they do to get it to work in ios7 alone.."

It looks like it depends on the device. If anyone else has tried, feel free to share your experience.

Update via @pldDavid: "worked on my MC603C/A (GSM) iPhone4 using the cam kit and a generic usb MIDI cable."

Piston Honda Mk. ][ - 3-dimensional interpolation

"Raw oscillator output. CV sources: Chaos Brother, wogglebug, A-118, human hands. The last sound playing is human EKG data in an 8-bit wavetable."

Also a note on updating the firmware via Scott Jaeger on Facebook: "When updating the firmware on the Piston Honda mk. II, the 3-digit display will usually show a set of randomly illuminated segments as the operation proceeds. This is due to some processor pins being shared between the programming port and the home-grown display driver circuit I used. However, at the end of a successful firmware upload, the same thing always happens: the display briefly shows the number "666" before going black. I had absolutely nothing to do with this, it's just the way the hardware behaves.

The third digit is driven from a completely different data line that isn't anywhere near the programmer pins."

RB1robotto Crash Test

Published on Oct 7, 2013 John L Rice·227 videos

"Warning For Epileptics: beware of some rapid image flashing!

Warning For People In General: beware of very annoying sounds! This video is mainly of interest to people considering purchasing the RB1robotto module and . . . for twisted people who want to irritate someone else near by. ;-)

This video consists of some random experiments with the soundmachines RB1robotto vocal formant module being controlled by the Division6/Mattson SQ816 sequencer and other modules in my eurorack system. I had only recorded the audio so I threw on some crash test dummy clips for fun.

Thanks for watching!"
