Note this is Electronisounds Audio's Quasar.

"Used it a bit, made some tracks and some videos (just search for Electronisounds Audio on YouTube...), now it's time to move on.

If you're reading this, you already know how rare this unit is.
Hoever, even more rare are the expansion cards that are inside!!

While i've seen the TRE expansion available a few times, I've never seen the "Hardcore Expansion" available in any other Quasar for sale. I'm sure there are more out there still, but it's literally almost impossible to track down.

That's why the price is so high on this one, even though it not a super clean faceplate. (Please See Photos)

It is fully working with no issues, and comes loaded with BOTH the TRE *and* Hardcore expansion cards installed!"

Quasimidi Quasar #2 Ambient Pads & Strings // Sounddemo Synthesizer

video upload by

"Some of my favorite Pad Sounds i use for Ambient.
The Quasar is an early 90s Rack-Rompler.
I think it still has charm in terms of sound and some really nice Patches on board.
Do you still use a quasar or an old rack rompler for your productions?

"The Quasar from Quasimidi is a rack-mounted digital synthesiser module which was released in 1993. A synth that was satisfying to the Techno crowds of the day and also General MIDI friendly.

The presets and drum sounds eschewed the typical General Midi specification, which was in vogue at the time, in favour of electronic and trance techno styles. The Quasar included an arpeggiator, which was an unusual feature in 1993.

The synthesizer also features a robust set of effects from Chorus, vibrator to delays, reverbs, and vocoder effects."

Quasimidi Quasar, very rare piece of German made hardware from the early 90s. Rack is well used, but has tested in great working condition. Left rack ear is bent and has plenty of panel wear. AC power cable included.

"Classic Synth Module from the early 90s (circa 93-94) Aimed at the dance music scene around then, it features many classic sampled and synthesised sounds with everything from Moogs, Oberheims, 303s, to more unusual and estoeric sounds and samples.

The synthesis engine is called M.A.S.S. meaning it combines rom pcm wave forms with FM and additive synthesis, the idea being you combine these raw 'sub patches' into a bigger 4-voice driven sound.

There is also a multi mode where you can use these basic patches as well as full General Midi compatability.

There's each sound has an applible resonant filter. There's also a reasonable amount of onboard effects and given the era the machine came from they're relatively low noise. The rom/voice set can be expanded by fitting either the T.R.E. (Quasimidi Technox sound set) or Hardcore rom carts.

The machine is a classic of it's time and if you're after that more digital slightly lo-fi sound of the early 90s the is the machine for you."

Quasimidi Technox

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Technox was a follow-up to Quasimidi's first rack-mountable synth, the "MASS" engine Quasar. The Quasar was a do-it-all multitimbral unit that was quite powerful, but had a rather lacking overall sound. The single-unit-high silver-clad Technox is a vast improvement based upon the Raven engine.

The presets are utterly 90's techno, rave, IDM, electronica goodness from every pore. Lots of solid basses, rave leads, hooverish sounds, acid squeals, spacey pads and some great drum kits. The latter includes full sets of TR-808, 909 and 606 hits. There are 512 presets, which for a 1995 synth wasn't bad!

Whereas the Quasar excelled at providing a ton of bread-and-butter sounds, the Technox is oriented towards electronica musicians. Sequence up to 16 MIDI parts. Each part has its own level, pan and effects send, and much more.

There's stereo outs, full MIDI In/Out/Thru and a foot switch jack. The Technox's greatest asset, ultimately, is its 16-part multitimbrality. Channel 10 is fixed to addressing drums, but the other 15 channels can go where you want.

There's a ton of good sounds in the Technox, and it is still very useable in many electronic music genres. These units are not easy to find, but when you do they are definitely worth a listen..
Item is clean but shows normal signs of rackmount use for its vintage age of 25.

"Polyphony - 21 voices Multitimbral - 16 parts Oscillators - 2 Waveforms - ROM LFO - 1 LFO VCA/Envelopes - 1 VCA with ADSR Envelope Controls - MIDI In/Out/Thru Arpeggiator - Built-in arpeggiator synced to MIDI clock Songs - 1 Demo Song Effects - Chorus, vibrato, delays, vocoder, filters, reverbs Memory - 1000 single sounds in ROM, 200 performance layer sounds

The Quasar is an early nineties synthesizer from Germany company Quasimidi. Although it is a digital synth, the Quasar was an early attempt at simulating vintage analog sounds without using an oscillator. Instead, the Quasar featured Multi-Algorithm Sound Synthesis or M.A.S.S. for short. Quasar comes with a selection of 1000 onboard sounds, but what makes them unique compared to the competition of the time was that they were all processed using different synthesis techniques. It features the standard 16 parts expected from a synth module, including a drum-part and all of them can be used at the same time. Also, the Quasar has 64 note polyphony and is compatible with GM."

Quasimidi Quasar MASS / Rare Synth Module Made in Germany 1993. Rack Mount Synthesizer

the Quasimidi Quasar is in full working order, there are marks to the casing as can be seen on the photos,

The volume pot is a little bit scratchy when turning the volume knob.

Largely a sample based machine with limited editing capabilities but enough to play with among it's 1,000 samples available for tweaking.

The synthesizer also features a robust set of effects from Chorus, vibrator to delays, reverbs, and vocoder effects.

QUASIMIDI TECHNOX

"The Technox was something of a follow-up to Quasimidi's first rack-mountable synth, the "MASS" engine Quasar. The Quasar was a do-it-all multitimbral unit that was quite powerful, but had a rather lacking overall sound. The single-unit-high silver-clad Technox is a vast improvement based upon the Raven engine, though it's still a mid-90s ROMpler and so playing many sounds at the highest or lowest octaves brings out tell-tale artifacts.

But what are those sounds? Well the phrase "techno rave electronic" on the fascia would probably hint at what one would find, and indeed the presets are utterly 90's techno, rave, IDM, electronica goodness from every pore. Lots of pretty solid basses, rave leads, hooverish sounds, acid squeals, spacey pads and some great drum kits. The latter includes full sets of TR-808, 909 and 606 hits. There are 512 presets, which for a 1995 synth wasn't bad!

Whereas the Quasar excelled at providing a ton of bread-and-butter sounds, the Technox is oriented towards dance musicians. To this end, a sequencer is also included which can address up to 16 MIDI parts. Each part has its own level, pan and effects send, and much more besides. There's a lot of good stuff here for darker and ambient genres!

They're not easy to find but definitely worth a listen!

The 512 sounds are divided into 4 banks."
