Mutable Instruments Shruthi 1 Synthesizer

via this auction

via the seller:
"I professionally built this myself and it has a rare and nice looking black on white display. It does not include a case, but I never used one with it. Has never been gigged, only played a couple times. It has the SMR4 filter installed, which sounds a lot like the SSM2044 (korg polysix etc). Real smooth and sweet with a good amount of resonance!"

Full specs:
Digital/analog hybrid monosynth.
2 digital oscillators

band-limited sawtooth with adjustable phase
band-limited square wave with adjustable pulse-width
band-limited triangle wave with adjustable waveshaping
phase-distortion emulation of a low-pass filtered sawtooth (casio CZ-101)
phase-distortion emulation of a low-pass filtered sawtooth with high resonance (casio CZ-101)
phase-distortion emulation of a low-pass filtered sawtooth in the Rocker Launcher’s world in which sine waves are turned into triangles (casio CZ-101)
mysterious phase-distortion thing (could have been in the CZ-101 if the engineers at casio dared…)
phase-distortion emulation of a Jew’s harp / Morsing (could have been in the casio CZ-101)
stack of 4 detuned sawtooth waves (with aliasing)
simplistic FM (1>2 configuration), with adjustable modulation index and frequency ratio
wavetables, wavetables, wavetables!
sweepable table of basic waveforms
tampura transwave
PPG harsh creature
single cycle waveforms taken from D50 patches
cello transwave
slap bass transwave
organ/drawbars single cycle waveforms
male voice
user wavetable, can be edited by SysEx messages
harsh, aliasing-full waveforms obtained by bit-toggling
sine wave with variable amount of bitcrushing
poor man’s square with pulse-width modulation (plenty of aliasing but fat for basses)
colored noise (sweep from low-pass filtered white noise -> white noise -> high-pass filtered white noise)
lo-fi vowel synthesis (think “speak and spell”) with vowel morphing

Circuit Bent Modified Speak & Spell Math

via this auction

"Here we have a Benstruments, circuit bent Texas Instruments Speak & Math. Just like the Speak and Spell, exact same voice only the Speak and Math has better beat looping in my opinion. Works as a normal Speak until you flip a glitch switch.

Ive added these new controls: Opto-Theremin Pitch Control with on/off switch Pitch control knob that slows it to 8 bit sputtering and super fast high chattering. Tone oscillator button that creates a tone you can then manipulate with the pitch controls like a theremin 1/4" output jack that shuts off the onboard speaker when you plug into an amp or pa system Strobing blue LED for effect Active matrix glitch switch that causes glitching with each push of the membrane Loop switch with on/off and advance button for cool beat loops Reset switch to get it back to normal Glitch forever switch that sets the speak into constant gibbering of incoherent sentences Dual voice glitch switch that causes it to speak in both a high pitch and low pitch at the same time Ive added all the coolest mods you can find on these sweet robotic bent synthesizers. I guarantee all of my bentstruments for as long as you own, my work is solid and ive modified hundreds of toys and synths that are employed the world over by both famous and amateur musicians. Great piece to bring some creativity to your work."

MIDI modified Speak and Spell - Synthesizer

via this auction

"For sale is one early-model (push-button) Speak & Spell, modified with MIDI in via Highly Liquid's MIDISpeak 2 MIDI retrofit kit. Everything is functioning perfectly as it should. Cosmetic condition is excellent on this unit, no major blemishes to speak of. Battery contacts have traces of corrosion, but it does not impede operation. Battery cover IS present and intact. For info on the retrofit, check out highlyliquid's website. It receives MIDI note and bank change messages to trigger internal sounds. Combined with a decent sequencer, you can replicate speech as well as common circuit bent glitch noises consistently and predictably."

Heavily modded Speak & Read and Casio SK-1

YouTube Uploaded by TheZombiest on May 22, 2011

"I started circuit bending this Speak & Read over a year ago, but lost interest in the project... until last week. That's when I decided to finish it off. I even painted it. I so very rarely do that. It must be love, right?

Here's a list of the bends & mods:
1x 'on' repeater switch.
1x tone switch
1x distortion
5x loop/hold switches.
1x glitch switch.
1x master pitch dial.
1x reset button.
Video output.
line output.
line input.
PT2399 delay w/ rate & feedback dials. Overdrive repeats button and slapback switch.
555-based LFO w/ rate, shape & depth dials and blue indicator LED.
2x switches for LFO control of the Speak's pitch and the delay's rate.
TL082 mixer w/ volume dials for the Speak & Read and Input.
386 based amp to drive the speaker w/ 2x distortion/overdrive dials.

I think that's everything.

The Casio SK-1 (well, Concertmate 500) has 21 switches for glitched out beats, an added LTC1799 precision oscillator to control the pitch. A bass boost switch, Drum volume dial, reset button and also a video-output and a whole bunch of flashing LEDs"

Mutable Instruments Shruthi 1

via this auction

"Here Is a Mutable Instruments Shruthi 1 Analog synthesizer kit. It has been hand built by a professional and has the latest firmware. This synthesizer is a monster! With all analog filters and envelopes with digital waveforms it makes for the perfect synthesizer. The OS is constantly being upgraded, adding new features and better performance. These are very hard to get, as they only make about 30 of them every 3-6 months. This has the included case and will be ready to play when you receive it in the mail. Buying this kit from me is a great decision because if you do not have the time or the skills to make it, you can be assured to still get a quality build without potentially damaging the kit.

CIRCUIT BENT SPEAK & MATH

via this auction

"item has been bent by the infamous Bentstruments...
-glitch switch
-the two in the upper right do kinda the same... they just effect the glitches
-black button is a pitch up flicker
-looper switch is self explanatory
-the knob in the middle is volume and works with both the speaker and the 1/8" output right below it
-three brass bearings are touch contacts that effect the tone of whats playing with multiple variations
-knob labeled "depth control" is a pitch knob that does short out if you get too low...
-hence the "oh spit" button (pardon my french i did not label the item) which resets circuitry."

Speak & Math Circuit Bent Glitch Synthesizer

via this auction
Circuit bent Speak & Spells and Speak & Maths are referred to Incators. Via suite101.com where you'll find additional info: "An incantor is the name given to a circuit-bent Speak and Spell or Speak and Math. The name was given by the incantor's inventor, Reed Ghazala. The name originally referred to instruments built by Ghazala, but the term has come to describe any Speak and Spell-type toy modified by circuit-bending. If you're unclear on what circuit-bending is, check out An Introduction to Circuit Bending. Because of their availability and ease of construction, incantors have proved to be one of the most popular circuit-bending projects. Even Mick Jagger has one."

You can learn how to make one in this Make: article by Reed Ghazala.
