CS80 - an inspired short ditty...

Published on Apr 13, 2017 noddyspuncture

"Sometimes when you programme a patch on this baby - and then hit a few notes or chords... you get some 'inspiration' from the very sound you just created. This was one of those times... so I rolled the camera and audio recorder and played it before I forgot the thing...:)"

Minimoog - Q960 Sequencer - C958 Quantizer - C961S Gate sequencer

Published on Aug 27, 2014 noddyspuncture

"Here is one of my Minimoogs being sequenced by the Q960. Just an 8 note first row thing I programmed. Also using my new Club Of The Knobs C958 quantizer which makes setting the pitch intervals really easy, and the C961S gate sequencer which enables the sequence to run backwards as well as forwards...! Here I am tweaking not only the Minimoogs settings (a little goes a long way..!) but also the sequencers third row which opens or closes the filter and creates accents, giving a nice, variable bounce to the whole thing. The quantizer has a few switches which puts it into different modes. I found that switching those gives you a slightly different tune here and there - this was a nice 'extra surprise' that I didn't know about."

Moog Model 15 - dual CV & Trig demo...

video upload by noddyspuncture

"I patched the 953 CV and triggers 1&2 to two separate channels.

CV/trig 2 go to the 921 oscillator and the second VCA and third EG (which I built) combination. Without the third EG it could still be done but I wouldn't be getting the filter envelope on the CV 1 channel.

I'm using a Sine out from the 921 and only "2nd notes" after the 1st is held are play the Sine."

Moog Sonic 6 - Modulation (X/Y) Depth Wheel...

Published on Oct 29, 2017 noddyspuncture

"Just finished adding a modulation wheel to my Sonic 6. Although the Sonic has an X/Y amount control for each oscillator section, if you wanted to add let's say, an equal vibrato effect to both oscillators you couldn't really do it - not whilst also playing anyway. So I decided to tap into the circuit and add a small box containing a stereo pot and a miniature mod wheel assembly I bought on eBay. It works a treat - and I also added a 'bypass' switch which takes the modification out of circuit. The moulded plastic tray behind the keyboard also has some nice compartments in which to install the thing. Had to position it carefully though so that the wheel didn't foul the knobs when the lid was down... no drilling was done and it's totally reversible...!"

"Here is my first video of the "R.A. Moog 701 Drum Synthesizer". I managed to get some sounds out of it - even though it was meant to *work* with the full "one-off" system as built by Bob in 1970. I think in the system it might behave a little more "drum-like"...!?! Ha!"

Fifteen minutes of CS80...!

Published on Jun 11, 2016 noddyspuncture

"Just messing on my CS80. Some noises and a tune. It's quite an instrument and there is really no substitute. I did notice, however that one voice card on channel 1 does need a slight tuning-in. Maybe time for the lid up soon and some maintenance... :)"

R.A.Moog 702 Percussion Synthesizer - test with LFO

Published on Oct 20, 2015 noddyspuncture

"Carrying on with the 702 - today I completed a "project board LFO". Square wave with Rate and also Pulse Width controls, as I believe that the front panel Rate & Regularity on the 702 are possibly the same..!? You can see me turning them here, outside of the 702. Now before I start getting the usual (and annoying) "Doesn't Sound Like Percussion..." comments - you must remember that this module is incomplete. It was only half built - left unfinished - sometime in the late 1960's and it's not been looked at since. Half of it is missing...! No one knows what it was intended to sound like, and I am just guessing. Anyway, what I have here is the Pitch & Bandwidth controls working and 'almost there'. The Pitch Range switch needs looking into and the Delay Time control doesn't operate at all. I think I will be taking a different kind of "Delay the Oscillator" approach as the circuit which I've drawn out just doesn't add up. This video shows just one of the three oscillators playing that I am testing out my ideas on - and I have also yet to add an EG and a VCA...!"
