The Immortal [NES] - Live on PO-28 and PO-32 Pocket Operators #jamuary2018

Published on Jan 15, 2018 tubesockor

"Live performance of an in-game song from the NES (Nintendo Education System 8-bit) game "The Immortal", using two Pocket Operators PO-28 & PO-32 from Teenage Engineering.

Quickly jammed in one take so figured it would match the #jamuary2018 flow of videos :)

The game music was originally composed by Douglas Fulton for the Apple IIGS, but a number of ports were made and C64-hero Rob Hubbard arranged some of them for NES (which my version is based on).

The PO-32 takes care of the bass line and some percussion (all sounds were created in Microtonic and then transferred to the PO). The PO-28 handles live playing and background melody."

PO-32: Gesaffelstein - Pursuit [live performance]

Published on May 15, 2017 tubesockor

"Gesaffelstein's 'Pursuit', performed live on a Teenage Engineering PO-32 'Tonic' Pocket Operator .

I tried to be as close as possible to the original, combining both programmed patterns (used up all 16 of them) as well as live playing (used up 15 out of 16 sound slots)."

New Frontier [Hubbard/Hall] - on Pocket Operators PO-20 & PO-28

Published on Nov 6, 2016 tubesockor

"Rob Hubbard & Max Hall's "A New Frontier", performed live on Teenage Engineering Pocket Operators PO-20 and PO-28.

Everything filmed in one take as usual.

Two Pocket Operators were used:
* PO-20: Bass, kick, hats, chords bleeps & pads
* PO-28: Lead sounds, background bleeps

Since this song would need a Bb-note, which isn't available on the PO-28, I emulated this by quickly bending a B - always something :)"

Wintergatan's Marble Machine - performed on Teenage Engineering OP-1

Published on Apr 3, 2016 tubesockor

"Another tribute to Wintergatan's amazing 'Marble Machine' song & video! Here performed live on Teenage Engineering OP-1 instead of a gigant ball machine. I tried to be as true to the original as possible (down to each separate drum hit :) ). Instructions on what's going on are available in the video. I'm using the LEGO accessory to get better control over one of the parameters."

Delta [C64] - on Teenage Engineering PO-28, PO-14 & PO-16

Published on Feb 14, 2016 tubesockor

"Here I do yet another live performance of a Commodore 64 SID classic: Delta, by Rob Hubbard from 1987.

Three Teenage Engineering Pocket Operators are used:
* PO-28 Robot: main lead, blips and drums.
* PO-14 Sub: bass and extra percussion.
* PO-16 Factory: secondary lead.

Both leads are played live, but some special tricks had to be done in order to overcome the "fixed scale" of the PO's, in this song that actually uses two scales. The PO-16 runs a few patterns where some notes on certain occasions are raised a half step. That way the range gets much wider.

Due to the 16-pattern limit of the PO-14 and PO-16 I had to break up the mid part and cut the parts together. Everything is done live though, so it's totally playable."
