Jupiter Clone - Sound Demo 2

tiergrinder

"Some Fat analog sounds from my home brew Jupiter 8 'inspired' synthesizer.

My friend Timo from Supercritical Synthesizers took the JP Clone for a test drive. if you like synthesizers and hardware, check out their website and youtube channel. They make really cool and awesome sounding gear :)

ps. Don't mind the wobbly keybed. I did some last minute tuning before Timo started to play and in all the excitement I forgot to secure the screws :D

Layering JP-8 Clone and Roland JP-08 to 8 Voice "Dual Mode"

Published on Sep 23, 2019 tiergrinder

"My Jupiter still has just 4 voices and since I have the 4 voice Roland JP-08 Virtual Jupiter-8, I decided to hook these together to see how a 8 voice (16 Oscillators) synth would sound in Jupiter 8's DUAL MODE.

There are some slight clipping on the recording because the synth got so thick :D You can also hear that the living VCO's are bit unstable when compaired to perfectly tuned Virtual Analog models but I love how the real Analog VCO's sound with the Virtual Analog VCO's."

Midnight sound noodling with the JP-8 Clone

Published on Jan 28, 2019 tiergrinder

"The other night I turned on the 'Jupe' clone and just started to tweak some modulated synth sounds, without any special purpose or goal. Since I've not posted any sounds from this synth in a long time, I decided to turn on the camera and record a simple video. Nothing special or amazing, just the sound of the synth with some reverb from the Lexicon to show what I was cooking."

Mitch Murder - Turning Point (Tiergrinders Synth Study adaptation)

Published on Jan 15, 2019 tiergrinder

"My version from Mitch Murder's Epic masterpiece - Turning Point.

I wanted to make my own version, both to learn and to see if I figure out even half of whats going on in the original. I didn't nail all the sounds, but I tried to archive the feel and mood of the original.

This is by far the most difficult recreation I've ever done and I gave up when I finished the 2 parts from the original three :D The bass line programming with the drums alone took hours and hours.

You can listen and download the Mitch Murder's original here :

New JP-8 inspired voice boards by tiergrinder

Published on Oct 12, 2017 tiergrinder

"Finally I got around and installed the new voice boards to my Jupiter clone. I made a six PCB test batch almost a year ago and build the boards, but never quite got around to install those.

This patch is made using two saw waves, and a bit of detune between the oscillators. VCO LFO modulation modulates both VCO1 and VCO2 with mild LFO modulation.

Filter is around 25% open to make the low end more pad like and boost the bass. Filter ENV MOD modulates filter just a bit to make the sound more alive. Filter keyfollow is around 60% to open up the upper notes.

Melody is inspired by Gattobus - "Momenti" Jupiter-8 VS System-8 demo"

Jupiter Clone - Voice Board PCB first sounds

Published on Oct 18, 2016 tiergrinder

"First sounds from the Jupiter 'Heart' PCB.
This is recorded right after I got the first board finished and oscillators tuned.

Each PCB contains two Jupiter '8' voices. Each packing with 2 VCO's, Osc Sync, Cross Modulation, All the VCF and VCO modulations and 2 envelope generators.

These voicing PCB's are controlled with 30-wire ribbon cable that sends the slider and pot data each board."

Jupiter Clone - Sound Demo

Published on Sep 6, 2016 tiergrinder

"This synth is based on Jupiter-8's voice circuits and it shares 100% the same VCO circuits and MOD CON circuits with the original JP-8. Only small differences are that some of the rare transistors are replaced with modern versions.

Polyphony is cut from 8 voices to 4, just because the huge amount of components needed to finish one working voice.

Roland's custom IR3109 Filter chips are replaced with similar OTA Filter design build from discrete components. Roland's IR3R01 envelope generator chips replaced with Electric Druind's Voltage Controlled ADSR design, each running on their own eeprom. There are total 8 of these VCADSR microcontrollers to provide double voltage controlled envelopes for each voice.

More info about the Electric Druids Awesome VCADSR's can be found here : http://electricdruid.net/voltage-cont..."

I wanted the video have all the tweaks in real time so I shot this with my phones cam."

Lost Years - The Connection (Tiergrinders Synth cover)

Published on Jun 3, 2016 tiergrinder

"My adaptation from Lost Years amazing track The Connection, from his new album Venom.

Original track hit me in all the right places at first hearing.
I love the opening delayed bassline, the following sync sound and everything that song beholds.

My cover is not an attempt to match the original 100%.
All the tweaks are recorded live even though it might seem there is not much happening to the sounds. I record each parts audio and video individually and gather the song and video from those :)

I wanted to test my new JP-08 for the bassline and use Juno-106 for the main synth lines.

Originals Bassline is really fat and I tried my best to emulate this with the JP-08 in unison mode.

Sync sound that I used is from Roland SH01 Gaia, the much bashed virtual analog from Roland. I love this synth and I used its preset sync sound. Original preset has LFO for pitch modulation so I turned that down and inverted the pitch envelopes ENV DEPTH from oscillator modulations attack and decay section.

My Jupiter Clone plays the backing synth arpeggio lines.
Drums are mixed selection of samples. Hihat samples are from 808, Claps from 909 and second more compressed clap I got from my DR-202. Toms are from Simmons samples"

Roland Boutique JP-08 and Jupiter Clone

Published on Apr 21, 2016 tiergrinder

"Fiddling with Roland Boutique JP08 and Jupiter Clone.
I tested my clone against a real JP8 once and know it sounds pretty much like the real deal, so I wanted to test how the new boutique sounds against a real analog.

I have to say, I simply love the new Boutique 'Jupiter'. It certainly has that jupiter sound and it also has that analog magic to it.

This was a quick test trying to match some basic stuff from both synths like VCOs, filter, envelopes and such. More to come.

Juno 106 used just as a master keyboard to the JP08."

Beyond Sunset - 80s sound test

Published on Feb 11, 2016 tiergrinder

Pad and Main melody line - JUNO-106
Poly Chords - Jupiter Clone
Bright Arpeggio - TX81z

Synths are sequenced live from Ableton through Motu Micro Lite 5x5 midi interface and were multitrack recorded with Tascam 16x08 audio interface. I added drum and bass parts later from the track I was making at the moment.
Bassline is also from Jupiter Clone."

Orkidea - Unity (Live synth jam)

Published on Nov 13, 2015 tiergrinder

"My live jam rendetion from Orkidea's Epic Classic track, Unity.
This is by far one of my all time favourite tracks from the good old days of trance music.

I chose Solarstones Pure Mix as a starting point for this live jam.
My version is really thin and light when compaired to the original, but I just love the melodies and feel so I just had to do a jam with this track :)

Gear list :

MC-505 : Sequencing and choir, string and main synth sounds.

Bassline, pads, backing choir, sample triggering, crash cymbal sounds and all other parts run from MC-505 besides SH-101 main line.
Patch used (Choir : Patch B081 Brightness Strings : Patch B062 OB Strings Main melody : Patch A029 MG Square)

TR-707 : Kick, Snare, Rimshot, Ride

Jupiter Clone - VCO Modulation and VFC LFO modulation controls

Published on Aug 8, 2015 tiergrinder

"Update 8/8/2015

VCO ENV/LFO and VFC LFO modulation circuits are now build and working. Calibration is still needed but everything works as it should.
VCO Mod control has switch similar to JP8 that chooses which VCO/VCOS are modulated, VCO1, VCO2 or Both.

Next I will start working on sync circuits."

Jupiter Clone Demo - PWM Modulation circuit

Published on Jul 30, 2015 tiergrinder

"Small update.

PWM section is now fully working. LFO / MANUAL / ENV control for each voices. I haven't tuned the PWM mod card yet so its not super refined.

All 8 VCO cards went through recalibration with proper oscilloscope and that made a huge difference on tracking at upper scales. Now each VCO follows over 6 octaves without detuning between voices."
