New Soundmachines SY1synesthesia at Meet The Knobbers

Published on May 26, 2013 Davide Mancini·16 videos

"We displayed the new module (along with many others!!!) at "Meet The Knobbers" in Siena. Also in this video Andrea Pedra (Head of the organization!) playing with Gattobus modular :)

You can associate up to 5 CV input with 5 DMX channel. In this case you see just an LFO going into the 'dimmer' channel of an DMX RGB fixture, but no one stops you from controlling a moving head, a strobo, a smoke generator, a.... whateveryouwant as long as it has DMX capability. The final module will have a switch and a very simple serial interface to program the correspondance between CV channel and DMX channel!"

Below via Davide Mancini on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge: "Soundmachines gear at work!!!!! The Android version of our software connects via bluetooth with the RC1radiostar that control the RGB channels of a DMX light fixture by means of our NEW MODULE: SY1synesthesia!!!! check a little video on our website! www.sound-machines.it"

soundmachines LS1 and RC1 jam & LS1lightstrip demo

Published on Mar 24, 2013 Davide Mancini·12 videos

"Here is a little more playing with the LS1lightstrip
You can see LIVE, LIVE+HOLD and REC modes of the strip.
Please keep in mind that the REC mode is still under development.
The LS1 is just playing along with a RC1radiostar in charge of some other parameter changing and chromatic stuff.
Some reverb by my KP3."

LS1lightstrip demo

Published on Mar 24, 2013

"A quick and simple demo, to show some capabilities. First a plucked sound (look ma! no LPG, just a 24db vcf..), then a trianglish thermin sound.
A little reverb and some delay courtesy of Korg KP3.

soundmachines rc1radiostar Bluetooth iOS & Android CV Eurorack Module

soundmachines RC1radiostar module functionalities

Published on Mar 18, 2013 Davide Mancini·9 videos

Wireless over Bluetooth4.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the first video of a fully functional and production ready RC1radiostar.

This module allows you to connect and control your modular synthesizer with a tablet (or another portable device) WITHOUT having to connect through a PC and a SOUNDCARD.

We have 8+8 analog outputs (high end 12bit converter used), either 0-5V and -10V to +10V.

In this video you are seeint the preliminary Android App, a iOS one (latest Bluetooth4 supporting devices) is under way...

You can find more informations, and later on, BUY the module at:

soundmachines Launches New Website - Eurorack Modules

http://www.sound-machines.it

Current eurorack modules (click through each link for additional details):

"RB1robotto is a voltage controlled singer, an irresistible source of pitched vowels, and much more. The product, the first in our line, was born as a sunday afternoon project, by putting together our modular, ad arduino board and a speech chip. The blending of the ‘voice’ with the noises, tones, and buzz from the modular was so good that we built a company around that.

Now, the production unit is real. Lush steel panel with thick silkscreened prints and deep red tones. You control the ‘voice’ of the robotto with your well known CV sources. Pitch and Gate are the usual dishes, accompanied by vowel and consonant control. Each of those are playable also by hand, and there is a manual gate too, ORed with the jack input.

But there is more.

Flip the board, before tightening the screws, and you can see a six pin connector that could open the product to many other uses. We chose to play with the Arduino platform and in the end we would like YOU to play with it too. Just buy a 5 bucks usb/serial adapter and download the Arduino 1.0 IDE. The platform is based on the soundgin/babblebot ic, a well known speech and sound synthesis platform. The RB1 is a little toy to play with waveforms, modulations, other than vowels and consonants. Up to three complex oscillators with many inter-mod capabilities. The datasheet is downloadable!"

RC1radiostar

"Straight Connectivity between your device (Android or iOS) and your modular, without passing through a PC at all. 16 CV outputs (8 0-5V, 8 0-10V) and 8 GATE output (selectable to 5V or 10V) and sync facilities to connect with your sequencers. The module is accompanied by applications to start using it, either Android and iOS and soon the protocol (OSC based) will be made public..."

LS1lightstrip

"The LS1 is a capacitive technology slider that will generate CV and GATE signals along with the movement of your finger on its surface..."

LP1lightplane

"LP1lightplane is an expanded, bi-dimensional LS1 lightstrip. The same functions are exposed on either axis for double the fun!"

soundmachines RC1radiostar

"It will be probably a 24hp module, brushed steel panel.

Main feat:

-16CV OUT (8 * 5V, also V/Hz, and 8* -10 to +10V)
-8 GATES OUT
-Bluetooth 2.0 interface (Android, Windows, Linux, wtf...)
-Bluetooth 4.0 interface (iOS)
-Direct interface between your device and your modular. No PC's.
-LIVE MODE and SEQ MODE distributed among the various outputs. (SEQ mode is synchable to other modular equipment for tight timing).

Some of the updates are:
-It will support OSC over BT (either SPP and Low Energy application profile, to have on board either Android (or WIN, or what else...) and iOS).
(we will keep also another 'lighter' protocol, just to save bytes..)

-It will have the choice (hardware) to choose between 5V and hotter 12V gates output

-It will have an expansion connector, to connect other 'medium' in the future.

And finally, this is the initial UI design of the app (for now we are testing it on a NEXUS phone, but it will support ANY Android 4.0 tablet or handset.
iOS app is also under construction."

"Some quick notes on the functionalities. The screenshot relates just to the LIVE features, there is a whole another world related to the SEQUENCER features, that could be mixed between the 16CV's and 8 GATEs).

-The actual screenshot is the most simple, 8 gates button (momentary) on the bottom of the screen, to trigger everything you want (from envelopes, to drums, to loopers...), and 8 CV sliders EACH one of which has it's own record/play buttons...
YES, press the R button and the movements will be recorded until you press the P button, when the RC1 starts looping the CV until you stop it.

-Have a look at the tabs on the top of the screen. We have (among many others) the possibility to pop up a chromatic keyboard with pitchbend and mod wheels (a fuc*ing tiny cv keyboard, maybe also polyophonic, that is ) OR an X-Y pad with GATE signal related to z-axis accelerometer 'bumps'.

-The app will comprise lot of things but NOT everything. We will disclose the protocol and the OSC address space to have others write apps and augment the object that could relate to your modular."

soundmachines RC1radiostar

"The following 3 (three) images are the teasers (well, that's pretty an understatement!) of the module that's currently in development.

Its name is RC1radiostar, and will make people happy about having a bluetooth slate, phone, whatelse in their hand and does want to connect to a modular WITHOUT having to carry a PC and a multi-ouput, expensive audio interface.
What it is:
-cv source
-sequencer syncable (master and slave) cv source
-multi pattern 16 track (8gates outs (seq)
-open source communication protocol (over BT)
-a couple of apps will be available (android and iOS)
-YES! you can use your 85$ tablet to control your modular!!!
-YES! you can also use that beautiful iPAD.
-YES! you can use your phone accelerometer to change seq patterns or filter cutoff freq or SoS feedback or WTF?
-YES! you can have more than one (don't tell anyone, yet)

What is not:
-audio interface
-audio rate modulation source
-expensive thumbs up

Planned release: late November/ December.
May the Force be with You."
