The Metasonix S1000 Wretch is off to NAMM

Michael Weeks just sent me the following, also posted to AH, so I'm guessing it's good to post here. Title link takes you to the S1000 product page. Sample links below.

"Well, the S1000 is now shipped off to California for NAMM, and I'll be
out there too to take in the sights!

In the meantime - the product page is up on metasonix.com -

There are two new audio demos - two more "song" oriented pieces, using
more compression/eq/delay/reverb etc than the raw demos. All sounds
from the S1000, except raw drumloops which were run through the filter
and waveshaper portions of the synth.

Enjoy! And if you're at NAMM, I'll be floating around the Metasonix
booths at both Analogue Haven and Big City Music.

I'll be at NAMM for all 5 days, with a still and video camera, I'll try
and get some fun footage :D

Take care,

  1. I was wondering if it was a V/Oct? Web site says it's something like 10V/2Oct - it's a metasonix afterall, so I guess you shouldn't even worry about tuning it?

  2. So he did end up putting some protection over the tubes after all. Some folks were afraid of burning (or shocking) themselves when usning the top knobs.

  3. tends to sound like an angry penguin! (if you've seen "March of the Penguins" you know what I mean.)

  4. The tube cover is ok, but it can restrict movement to get to the range knobs. I removed it to use it - the temperature isn't too bad, the Oscillator tubes run the hottest of everything on the board. The primary purpose of the shield is more likely to protect the tubes from projectiles ;)

As for tuning - it's accurate range is a bit small (about 2 octaves of good trackability). I had some problems calibrating it, as it was my first time with a V/Octave synth and I was using a Future Retro mobius to convert midi-cv, so results may be better with another model of midi-cv. I know Metasonix plans on offering a built in midi-cv for a fee (like they do for the TM-3), so that's probably the best option for conversion.

As for the demos sounding nasty, well, that's just how I like it, YMMV ;)
