Modified Minimoog

via this auction. Details on mods:

"It is a modified one, but very professionally modded by a Company I don’t know anything about, in “ancient times”... The mods look almost factory-made, considering the quality of wood cutting and added printed metal written panels. You’ll find the logo of the company in the picture of the modulation panel. If you can provide any historical info about this matter, you're welcome! This Mini has A LOT OF ADDITIONAL FEATURES, compared to a standard one, adding more versatility and interfaceability to the analogue realm! It can be used as a good controller for other Moog, ARP, Oberheim, Roland CV/Gate controlled analogue / modular synthesizers."

"This is a vintage, original Model D, serial number 8858, in very good general conditions, with some main modifications.... 4th oscillator (LFO): above the wheels, the woodwork has been nicely cut, the mod panel looks deeper, with a very clean job, that is amazingly very unintrusive from an esthetical point of view and gives a very “retro” style to the mod. Here you find both a switch, selecting either a triangle or a square waveform, and a potentiometer, controlling the frequency rate of the LFO. As you know, the third oscillator in a standard Mini can either be used as an audio osc or as a LFO. Here you have an independent LFO, that can be routed to the modulation wheel by maintaining, at the same time, all the power of the three oscillators mixed together! The third switch (from the left) above the mod/wheel panelhas two positions: up = normal Mini mode (3rd osc or noise as modulator sources); down = the LFO 4 replaces the noise as a modulator source – it means that, using the potentiometer, you can mix both OSC3 LFO and LFO4 together, eg. a triangular waveform from OSC3 and a square one from LFO4! Really amazing for a Mini. - Mono / duophonic mode: yes, true. The first switch (from the left) above the wheel selects the two modes: down= MONO (normal Mini mode – with only one difference: when you want to use the first oscillator alone, in the MIXER section not only setting the OSC2 switch to the OFF position is needed, but also positioning the volume OSC2 potentiometer full counterclockwise!); up= DUAL (duophonic – OSC 2 is routed to a second key you press... like in an ARP Odyssey, but very unusual for a Minimoog!). Please test it with a brass patch and let me know what you feel... - Single/multi: the second switch from the left selects single or multi trigger. Another bonus available... - OSC Sync (!): this Mini can make the OSC2 (and/or OSC3) synchronize to the OSC1, either in Hard or Soft mode (two lever switches in the panel added to the OSCILLATOR section, select the option). I will not spend a word about this, if you don’t know what this mean I really prefer you not to bid. I can’t explain by words what an aggressive, screaming sound is available this way. Moreover, there are two LEDs in the SYNC panel blinking intermittently until OSC1 or OSC2 are tuned with OSC1 (in the “SYNC off” position); they are turned off when OSCs are synced. This is a groundbreaking option, that adds an unbelievable power to the Mini sonic capability. BTW, the first two OSCs are tuned one octave below the OSC3. I guess it was a previous owner's choice (probably mainly bass patches were performed). I won't touch the osc settings myself, it shouldn't be that difficult to retune them again one octave below! - Pedal in: an additional jack input, located in the upper/rear panel wall, near the audio factory outputs (high and low), allows a pedal with three-contacts jack to control the following: either all three oscillators frequencies together, for screaming sweeps, and/or only OSC2 freq (sounds cute and great when synced with OSC1), and/or VCF cutoff freq. Such selections are done, respectively, by means of : two two-position selectors in the OSCILLATOR section (the upper labelled “1 2 3”, the lower labelled “2”) and the lower selector under the VCF orange switches (VCF pedal On/Off). I connected this one to a Roland EV5 pedal: astonishing expressivity. - Controller Outputs: as you know well, no Minimoog has any controller outputs for external synths. In this one there is a Cinch-Jones 10-prong female connector in the upper/rear panel available. Included in this auction is a “snake” multi-cable that has the male corresponding connector on one side, on the other side seven labelled ¼ inch jacks that carry out the following voltages (open your ears :-) : Keyboard CV out, (Moog-like) S-trigger out, (Roland-like) V-trigger out, Pedal out (it replicates the voltage producted by the used pedal, as an useful output for controlling any signal in a second synth,) and three outputs labelled A, B and C. These are the “pitch” and “modulation” voltages, as generated by the wheels, mixed together, that you can independently use for controlling three different inputs (eg. two separate oscillators and a VCF of an external synth). By the way, the row of five lever selectors has the following purpose (from up to down): the first three are 3-positions selectors (on/off/inverted), named A, B and C. These can route both the pitch and mod wheels control signals to external sources, as previously described. It is possible to route, eg. “out A” (from the corresponding output jack of the “snake”) to an oscillator, while “out B” (inverted) is routed to a second oscillator of an external synth: raising the pitch wheel, you’ll have one oscillator raising in pitch, the second falling down, while the VCF (“out C”) can be in either mode... I connected this Mini to my Moog modular 55... WOW. The fourth (2-position) “D” switch is for selecting the Pedal out ON or OFF. The fifth selector switches Trigger outputs on or off. All the switches/mods are labelled on the panel by transferrable white fonts, easily scratchable away and replaceable with a different marking label."
