Just saw this in the set after putting up the last post. Wow! There are some really good shots in this set - don't miss them.
P.S. I love that the Matrix-12 and Expander both have the "Matrixsynth Edition" look going for them. : ) They should have made the blue lines green though. The Matrix-6 was my first synth, hence the alias and name of this site. The Matrix-12 was and still is my dream synth.

Matrix, have you ever gotten to play with a Matrix-12 in person? I haven't. My old OB-Xa is a pretty damned good consolation prize.
ReplyDeleteYep. I have a "Matrix-11" One of the voice boards is dead. Beautiful synth. I'm really into thick pads and drones, and the Matrix-12 shines there. There is a VCA2 that drones the sound you are playing in the background when you turn it up. It just sounds massive - lot's of depth to the sound. When I first played it my initial impression was wow, this thing sounds very deep as in 3D space deep. It's hard to explain. If you were watching a scene out of star wars with x-wings and tie fighters, the x-wings and tie fighters would be your lead mono synths, up front and cutting, and the deep space they were flying in would be the Matrix-12. It's one of those synths that are an absolute pleasure to play if you are into listening to the details and fluctuations of sound. There's just so much going on - never static and it stays in tune. : ) The build quality is solid as well. The keys and aftertouch response are just right and the editing interface is extremely simple. My only gripe is that the knobs are the type that have little clicks (can't think of the word now); they are not smooth. This is great for getting that exact parameter value, but not so good when you want the smooth feel of a sweep.
ReplyDeleteYep, it was #1 on my dream synth list. I remember wanting it in 1986 when I picked up the Matrix-6 instead. It took me well over ten years to finally get one. I think everyone should own their dream synth at least once.
