metasonix wretch machine hifi

Update: I accidentally put up the video labeled hifi thinking it was the same video as the lofi. It's not. Here's the lofi vid. Title link takes you to the hifi. the hifi is considerably shorter, so watch this one.

YouTube via companyofquail.

"this is just a simple 16 step sequence from a mobius driving the metasonix wretch machine starring me turning knobs and the wretch machine making noises."

Note that companyofquail brought us these excellent Genoqs Octopus videos.

  1. It's so zen.

    It's like, the ultimate Buchla.

I like how the knobs turn and nothing happens to the sound.

    I'm near trancendence.

    I swear!

  2. OK, guys, one negative anonymous comment, maybe, more than one? Who knows if it's the same person? If you are going to post negative comments do it with an account. For all we know it's someone that has a personal vendetta against Metasonix or other.

  3. if you go to the youtube page of the user there is a longer video of lower quality showing more of what the knobs can do

  4. I don't get how commenting that for $2500 it's a bad investment due to the poor demonstrations that have been shown is a "negative" comment.

  5. yeah now that i tried to make a video about it i realise why there are way more audio examples out there.... for one the synth is simple and its all about how it sounds in a mix, with an audio recording of it sounding a lot cooler than the shitty audio on a digital camera. you should really check one of these out for yourself, its defintiely not for everyone but i hve used it for a few basslines in tracks and it def sets itself apart from my other "go to" bass synths. sorry to let you guys down.

  6. Yep, I goofed. Post updated with the longer lofi version. I thought they were the same. I didn't even watch lofi thinking the hifi was the same.

  7. it's growing on me.

I think it's like many metasonix modules in one.

Imagine modulating some of the knobs he's turning with CV.

I'd like to hear it processing external audio.

And in an actual "musical" patch. Can someone at least try and record even a basic lead sound out of a Metasonix? :-(

  9. why would you want a "basic" sound from a odd bird synth? basically any otehr good analog monosynth can do basic leads. the metasonix is more of an experimental type of synth and i think it fairs better with odd blip bleep type sequences, of course this is completely subjective and just what i like using it for as well as filtering other synths and using my modular in conjunction with it. that said i will work on a lead line for you so that you can make a better decision about the usefulness of the synth to you.

  10. This video is much better than the first. I'm starting to reaaly like the sound of this thing. Very organic and dirty. Like an old factory or something. I could imagine what the double-tube-alicious action of blasting this through my Fender Twin would be like. It's about time somebody started making some unique and ambitious synths.

I'm sure some of the new Waldorf gear will be great for everone's musical lead sound needs... :-)

  11. That does no credit to the Wretch. When people play a boring repetitive sequence through any synth for minutes it can put you off of anything. My demos for the Wretch are on the Metasonix page and I used it for an entire song. That's what people need to hear to know if it fits their style.

  15. In all seriousness it's one of the most unmusical pieces of gear I've ever heard. I dont understand the appeal of Metasonix. I'm a big tube fan, but not in the application of synths! It seems great for dissonant useless sounds though.

    Snickerdoodle.

You should contact Metasonix. They might pay you to use that line in their marketing.
