Oberheim Matrix-12

Two Matrix-12s on the bay. One here, and one here. Title link takes you to more shots. Update: consensus is that the auctions are both frauds. Check out the comments of this post. And note, I DO NOT put posts up for the sake of the auction. I put them up for the shots and details only. The auction links are a courtesy and the equivalent of via flickr, via YouTube, via joe, etc. It is not the purpose of these posts.

Some details from both:
"This amazing machine was the last of the great Oberheim analog machines; built before Oberhiem's acquisition by Gibson/Norlin. Computer controlled, with a revolutionary matrix modulation section and full midi implementation, it set a new standard for power and sound that hasn't really been equaled. Each patch features 12 voices. Each voice can have a different sound assigend to it. These voices can then be played polyphonically in rotation, or grouped by polyphonic zones. Or stack them all for a monster 12 voice monophonic lead to rock the earth! Via midi, you can even play every voice individually on it's own channel - it's like having 12 individual dual oscillator monophonic analog synthesizers, and at the same time having a 12 voice polyphonic 12 timbre synth.

# Audio Sources 12 Independent Velocity, Release Velocity and Pressure (After-Touch) responsive analog Voices. NOTE: On this unit, Release Velocity and Pressure are accessible only by external MIDI controller.
# Voice Control Assignment can be per MIDI Input Channel (12 maximum) or per polyphonic grouping in up to six Zones.

  2. I agree he did the same to me! Also the one in the US was sold earlier to a guy in the UK so this might be fraudulant as well BEWARE!!

  5. The US guy offered me the thing for 700GBP (why GBP in the US?) ... and the other never gave me the required infos - I am shure both are frauds! MatrixBlog should not support such frauds with pictures, links etc !!!

  6. If I've got my history straight, this was not the last model produced by pre-Gibson Oberheim. I'm pretty sure the Matrix-6/6R were produced concurrently, and the blackface Matrix-1000s came after that. I've got a blackface Matrix-1000 and the manual gives the corporate name as Oberheim/ECC. I'm not sure where the whiteface Matrix-1000 and the OB-12 fall into the sequence, but I believe they were pre-Gibson too.

  7. Oh yeah, and there was also the Xpander, which is basically a Matrix-12 without a keyboard, as I understand it.

  8. An Xpander is half a matrix 12.
    Voice-wise anyways.

I don't know why matrix has these auctions either.
They're either high negative real Ebay sellers or all positive fraudulent sellers.

  9. If you think I post auctions for the sake of auctions you are nuts. The auctions have nothing to do with the post. It's just a via link like via flickr, via YouTube, via joe, etc. The post is about the shots and the details not the auction. Don't forget that. Click on the title link to get to the shots I grabbed. Also someone sent these in. As always, do your homework on auctions and always be careful.

  10. Its an automatic mechanism that auctions are pushed when you blog them, one can see that every time, that the prices runnig high instantly after you linked these auctions.

So maybe it would be better not to link running auctions - or to link/blog them after they are over ;-)

  11. Laurin,
That actually isn't a bad idea! have a sort of "gate delay" for ebay posts where they can be written by Matrix on Day X and then they posted by Matrix on Day Y.
This would make those who are looking for a good deal happy as 30 other poeople wouldn't be bidding against them.

On the other hand if i saw something after bidding was finished and I didn't have a chance to bid on it i would also be sad.....

    oh life is so complicated!

  12. It's a two-way street. I have found some great Ebay stuff via Matrix that I probably wouldn't have searched for otherwise. Maybe there's a compromise... perhaps an additional Matrix blog that only features Ebay postings. You could call it "Matrixsynth B."

  13. I've found several things I've bid on from Matrixsynth.

Also, many times when I've bid, I've been the only one, so the comment about the prices going up isn't true in all cases -- but I'm sure it's true in some.

Sometimes I've found auctions that are cool, and Matrix held off on posting about them until they were done so I'd have a chance to try and get the auction.

What an agreeable chap Matrix is.

  14. Does he swallow?

  15. Only booze, but you are definitely swallowing the Matrixsynth juice by coming back here. Anytime you need some, just come back for a swallow.
