My two Bohm Soundlabs..

"I've got two Soundlabs! :) including a book Die Klangwelt des Musiksynthesizers. This book is written by Bernd Enders.. inventor of the Soundlab and this book describes music synthesis with examples with Soundlabs! :) The book also contains patchsheets and pictures of frontpanels which never made it, like schmitt-trigger module, mixers, VLFOs and envelope followers.

The Co-developer Oliver Klegg contacted me and still has the prototype. I really want a picture of that prototype, but the email seems to be dead.

He was also asking me about the Ringmodulator. He was not sure it was working in the first models. I've no problem with them."

  1. Hello Johnny!
    Long live the Soundlabs!
A picture of that prototype would be fantastic, so when you finaly got please share with us, but also I belive that an early production model was used for the ads and the original literature of the beloved 'Lab. (see left hand panel beside the keyboard)
Now, if we could find the Digital Sampling Module....
....the special prize possession module for every Soundlab owner!
Be happy and making music with the 'Labs :D :D

  2. Just a note without offence: they have not invented 'something' they use Curtis inside...

  3. Yes, the Soundlab contains the CEMS: 3340 VCO, 3320 VCF, 3330 VCA and 3310 VCADSR as Sequential PRO-ONE, PROPHET-5 and Synton Syrinx do, also.
The CYBORGS review talks a lot badly about the ring modulator and maybe they just had for review one model that the module wasn't worked correctly.
Maybe on my 'Lab too, this is not working very well. - I haven't any other ring modulator from another company to compare to, but I've noticed variations on the filters too: on another example I've playing, the filter was much sharper than mine: maybe this is the legendary analogue instabillity and variation from model to model. (Think Minimoog, were everybody says that no-one sound exactly the same with another one)
Or they just needed a little more R&D time, back then when they design the Soundlab.
It is well known, that people that had been involved in the Soundlab project, had been in the team that designed the ICA modular (around 1975-76) and Formant Modular, so I belive they knew a thing about designig Synth equipment.
    Sorry for the poor English.
