STG Soundlabs Radiophonic Accessory System

"While unable to produce diatonic music on its own, this system provides a basic set of tools which any radiophonic composer would find useful in today's modern tape studio. filtering, gain regulation, a noise source, clock oscillator, and two contour generators (capable of manual or remote triggering) are all at your fingertips without having to walk across the studio, touch a razor blade, or repurpose surplus military equipment.

available now from STG Soundlabs for only $1,963 including hardwood cabinet with integrated power system. system components available seperately.

from left to right: Multiples, Attenuators, Noise Buffet, Sample & Hold, Envelope Generator, Post-Lawsuit Lowpass Filter, Envelope Generator, and Voltage Controlled Amplifiers.

the noise, S&H, EGs, and VCA are all based around boards by Ray Wilson (musicfromouterspace.com), and the Post-Lawsuit Lowpass Filter is the initial production version of the Yves Usson (yusynth.net) ARP 4072 filter. all modules are electrically compatible with Synthesizers.com systems and physically compatible with Synthesizers.com or Moog systems. details soon at stgsoundlabs.com."

  1. Dude - you've got the notes wrong. That is the sorriest Chameleon I've ever heard.

G Ab A Bb Ab Bb

C Db D Eb Bb Db

Try again and punch it up a bit. It sounds flat and dead. There's a video of Herbie playing this live on youtube - check out the variations he plays on the bass line.

  2. you're right. i should deleate that video to avoid any further embarassment.

    thanks for the heads-up.

oh hold on a second ... your first string should have an "F" were the "Ab" is ... actually i'm not even sure what you wrote there is even right at all.

maybe i'll leave it up. depends on how hard i'm flamed over this gross display of musical neglect and/or my out-of-tune Minimoog.

  3. "this video is also temporary. it will be down in a couple days."

Why even bother to post it in the first place then?

  4. Trust me the notes are correct, I've been playing that tune for years. Think of it this way: its a Bb7 chord followed by an Eb7 chord, with a chromatic walkup in front of each chord.

  5. Herbie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcjkA5ZAWQo

odyssesy on the right, 2600 on the left, clav and rhodes in the middle,
can't tell what is under the 2600

    continuous funk goodness

I just pull it out and piss all over you from the elevated stage -- and let you drink it up :)

  7. anonymous: i put the video up to demonstrate to my livejournal friends list that it was functioning. i just kind of forgot to deleate it.

headhunter: your first string there, "G Ab A Bb Ab Bb," definitely should have read as "G Ab A Bb F Bb", but you're right about me having learnt the basslne wrong. i'll chalk it up to being so sick of seeing bad jam bands cover it here in Peoria that i never had my own band play it, and therefore never did a proper job of learning it. thanks for the video link ... i didn't realise there was Headhunters era footage on U-Toob.

i did just programme it into the x0xb0x just to have something familiar and ARPey for the demonstration. and before you rush to point it out i'll beat you to the punch and point out that since it was most likely a mk1 Odyssey on the album, and the mk1 used a 2-pole filter module called the 4023, this entire video is flawed from the get-go.

  8. Wasn't the whole point of the videos to show off STG's modules, which by the way are pretty pimpin'. Check out those slick Moog style graphics on the formed aluminum panels. Way cooler than .COM or MOTM graphics.

  9. I continue to disagree about that "F" you claim to be in there, so I googled up a transcription for you: http://tinyurl.com/29mdt9

Didn't mean to totally piss on your parade. The modules look good. I like the front panel mechanicals you posted pictures of recently - the gate delay - very well done.

  11. khcokay so i fired up the Hammond transistor spinet i keep around for emergency use (i don't actually have any keyboards set up to play right now) and ran through every permutation of the bassline discussed here with http://www.myspace.com/mattchadra and he agrees with you so i'm going to go change that pattern in the x0xb0x to make sure it never happens again.

i'm assuming this is definitely because of prolonged exposure to hippie bar music earlier in my life.

thanks for the kind words, Retrosynth.

  12. Aside from the bassline being wrong, am I the only one shocked at one of the badest bass axes on the planet being made to sound so...well...horrible. 10 seconds, and a few tweaks and I'd have the bassline punching, but it wouldn't change the fact that the sequence would still be wrong.
