Title link takes you to shots via this auction.

  1. Doesn't look enough like the well known EMS of Synthi fame and not very old looking though of course EMS is still around. Looks more like good homebrew that happens to have"EMS" on it. If it were not so old wouldn't it have more I.D. and safety markings?

  2. ChamomileShark says "I agree with m'learned colleagues..it looks nothing like the EMS house style..the filter bank came out in 1970 I think so if this is a prototype it's wearing very well."

  3. Actually, it seems to bear some vague resemblances to the 2000 and 3000 vocoders. The 2000 vocoder uses similar typeface schemes and has no EMS 'fork' logo, and the 3000 has the white-on-black faceplate scheme. See http://www.vintagesynth.com/index2.html for a decent look at both together, then go back and look at this device again and I think you'll start seeing the resemblance. This could be a short-run device from the mid-70s, along around the period of the Synthi P (which also has the white-on-black panel...see http://www.ems-synthi.demon.co.uk/emsprods.html).

  4. Well the 3000 is an EMS Rehberg design and exclusive their product. It would probably be marked as such, something vintagesynth.com doesn't point out.

Though that line of thought did occur. Ludwig Rehberg does seem to be looking to offer something to sell, but his prices seem to be high enough to discourage anyone. He did have a filterbank aimed at broadcasting, though this isn't it.

But still "prototype" does open up a lot of question. It could for instance be someone else's prototype of a racked EMS filter, not EMS's prototype of a filter
