  1. i think i saw this guy play on the ferry from Uk to france in 1994.

seriously, that demo makes the korg look like 'evolved general midi'

  3. very expensive machine, but it still has that Korg sound, which is ok if your looking for that.

  4. How is this any better than a Korg M1?

  5. The Oasys is a:
    - very good sounding synth
    - keyboard with nice action
    - pretty nice controller
    - great analog emulation
    - great string modeling synth
    - great modeled organ
    - got a few nice emulations
    - very good piano
    - nice 'legacy collection' synth sounds fine
    - very powerful sound shaping tools overall
    - so so sample player
    - lots of karma for prog rock & beyond
    - nice user interface
    - extremely tweakable

Not much to hate 'cept the price.

Go to the Guitar Center with an open mind and play with one. They're nice.

  6. that's Stephen Kay who wrote the Karma software and sold it to Korg. I assume he wrote the Oasys too since it's a super-Karma.

I have a Karma but those videos are THE reason I do not have an Oasys.

  7. Ya those videos are kinda funny.

Luckily, people doing prog-rock synth demos don't bias me against the machine.

At least Stephen listens a bit -- he got that hair cut :)

Also, even if you don't like his prog-rockish style, you should check out how amazingly supportive he is on korg forums, and his own site karma lab. Great guy all round.

  8. Stephan Kay is a yutz of a bobblehead.

  9. The above feature list doesn't make up for the fact that the OASYS sounds no better than an M1.

  10. Yeah, its too bad the Oasys sucks. Buncha thickies, the lot o' ya!

God forbid its a good fit for anyone for any reason, its much easier to bash...especially if you're an Anonymous Coward.

Multiple deep synth engines behind the best UI ever, plus 2 gigs of uncompressed samples. Not bad at all IMHO. Of course I wouldn't want it as my only board.

I approached it with an open mind and the Oasys saved me a ton of studio space as well as a much more ergonomic workflow not to mention peace of mind - an underrated commodity these days.

    My take on it:

  11. I tried it and it reminded me of an
M1, wavestation and Kurzweil K2600 with vst plugins and a screen...

I can see where it would work but I didnt feel it was for me.

  12. "the best UI ever"

The Nord Lead 3 called. It wants its title back.

The Oasys will still sound like an M1 no matter how many engines you throw into it.

  14. Awww, your animosity is real cute.

I don't recall the Nord having a huge touchscreen.

Yeah...M1...yeah. That really adds to the discussion. Yer a reel rockit scientician yessir.

I'm guessing the ad hominem attacks are next?

Sometimes its better for Anonymous cowards to let people think they're idiots rather than to open their mouths and remove all doubt.

  15. "it reminded me of an
M1, wavestation and Kurzweil K2600 with vst plugins and a screen"

I can see that comparison. It does all that, but does go beyond quite a bit. I crank a lot of 'metasonix' type sounds out of mine.

  16. Since when has the Nord Lead 3 NEEDED a huge touch screen? It does what it is supposed to do in a quick and elegant manner.

Is any product with a huge touch screen instantly classified as having the world's greatest interface? Does the size of the screen dictate the level of greatness? In that case, my Lemur is larger than your OASYS and it has a polyphonic touch surface. Wow that just sounds so dirty!

I don't understand why people are so emotionally invested in this product. Stop being crybabies and make some music and disprove the M1 comparisons once and for all. I dare you.

"Yer a reel rockit scientician yessir."

How is this not an ad hominem attack?

  17. LOL, wait until they go to try and sell them, ouch! there going for $3000 less then a new one, and it's only going to depreciate more. That's a serious hit and not a wise investment

    ReplyDelete
  18. I bought mine used from the guy who invented the Corn Dog.

    ReplyDelete
  19. haha... yes, the nord lead 3 is a great comparison to the oasys.

I mean it's fine, but come on.

another bad side to the oasys: it seems pretty much overkill no matter what you do with it.

  20. Pleh.

Respect is a bit of a two-edged sword. I'd certainly be willing to respect other peoples opinions if they bothered acknowledging mine and even considered my reasoning and experience as somewhat valuable.

Why do I think the O is such a great machine? Is it for spurious reasons? Am I just a sucker? Do people really think I didn't *carefully* weigh the options before plunking down THAT much cash? People have implied that somehow owning this machine is stupid, regardless of the reasons, that somehow I've been "fooled" or "brainwashed" in some way.

My dillema is that nobody seems to want to have an intelligent conversation when it comes to this board.

  21. I apologize if it came out wrong. I just meant to say the oasys does a lot in every other department. really is the workstation king of excess, imo, but that's not a negative point.

I'm glad you can afford one and enjoy it.

  22. No, that wasn't a reply to your post but to the ones above it. sorry :(
