  2. Yes it's Korg. The Wavestation and Oasys came out of this lab, among other things.

It's in Milpitas, about an hour southeast of San Francisco.

  3. Sounds like someone already knows the answer. You can see on the real estate sign in the window the first two digits of the phone number are "40." "408" is Silicon valley area code including Milpitas.

  4. Rest assured that nothing interesting ever has or will happen in that office. It should come to no one's shock if it is revealed that inside there is a pack of chimps twirling around noisily in their office chairs.

  7. I concur that there's really nothing to see there (don't drop by, all you'll get to see is what you can see in this picture), not so sure about the monkeys, though.

Eek ook eek, I'm a monkey, *spin*.

  9. Yes, it's them. The address is

    Korg R&D USA
    1629A Main Street
    Milpitas CA

You can look it up on www.switchboard.com

I used to live near there, and drove past once. It is/was in this small nondescript strip mall, and didn't look like an R&D lab building at all.

Whether the real R&D happened here or in Japan (and this is just a front) - well, I have no idea. Remember, though, that the FM and physical modelling synthesis methods used by Yamaha and Korg were originally invented at Stanford University, nearby in Palo Alto. Yamaha (hence Korg) licensed the technology.

  10. how exactly is korg cool?

  11. while you are in silicon valley, don't forget that you can also visit Apple, eBay, Yahoo, Google, HP, Sun, Silicon Graphics, Buchla, Digidesign (Daly City), and dozens of other interesting technology companies. Thats why its called "silicon valley". To those who live there, tech company offices are nothing exciting.

  12. >how exactly is korg cool?

ahm... making cool synths for like 40 years might have something to do with it, idk. it IS the cooler of the big three right now.

  13. how about some examples of those "cool" synths then?

  14. Korg hasn't made anything "cool" in decades. I would maybe see your poinr better if you had said "korg was cool, they used to make cool products back in the day"

  18. I love how kids talk about how cool stuff that they have never even used is. Yeah anon that means you. Unless of course you can prove that you own every item that you listed.

  19. The last cool product from Korg was the Mono/Poly in 1981.

  20. Proof? What is this, Matlock?

I currently own three of the six things I listed. I used to own a MS2000R which was also pretty cool, for what it was.

I have other more complicated, expensive gear but Korg has a knack for easy to use, fun interfaces that are great for writing music with. Maybe that's the problem, you aren't writing music so it has no appeal to you?

Anyway, Korg has some cool stuff for those of us without sticks up our bums. And no, sorry, there will be no proof of that either...

I agree with this statement 100%.
