She talks about how she was very committed to non-keyboard synths and how she thought keyboards were an inappropriate interface for synthesis. Fascinating stuff. And... She pronounces Buchla, Boo-kla. So much for those that told me it was Buck-la. ;) I can finally go back to pronouncing it the way I had been all these years... life is better.

Well, Don does pronounce is closer to Book-La.

ReplyDeleteThe correct pronunciation is Book-la... Don calls himsel Book-la tho I've heard him refer to his instruments as Boo-klas. strange.

ReplyDeleteThe keyboard moves synthesis into a whole other world, that obviously didn't stop her from using one, nor did it stop her doing things the "old way" either.
You hear the same thing about the BBC engineers leaving the radiophonic studio because they weren't using tape loops any more. Nobody stopped them from getting a farlight and doing it that way.
I just dont get arguments like that because in effect you're making yourself obsolete. There's no reason you can't incorporate modern techniques along with the old stuff.
Never pronounced it, but if I were I'd of probably said Butch-ula. Every time I've read the name, thats what I've said in my head. Thanks Matrix for letting me sound less stupid if I ever get one and need to tell someone what I've got.
