GForce String Machine to include the Yamaha GX1

Macaixa noticed this image and the following blurb after clicking through this post.

"?
A teaser of something that should appear in a VSM add-on pack. This instrument is a true rarity and something that we were truly privileged to play, let alone record."

If you look at the image of this post you will see that is the Yamaha GX1 programmer. For those that don't know what the GX1 is, it's the precursor to the Yamaha CS80. More massive, more coveted and much more expensive. Note the Virtual String Machine is sample based with some effects including filter:

The sounds from 17 classic and rare string machines
Over 2.5Gb of data
66 individual sample sets
49 notes, each individually sampled and looped
Dual Layer & Split Keyboard capability
Vintage style Ensemble & Phaser effects
Filter section with Lowpass, Bandpass & Highpass modes
Two Envelope Generators
Pitch LFO
Dynamic control including filter aftertouch
500+ Patch library

  1. Matrix, I think you may getting your hopes up just a little too high anticipating a full GX-1 emulation at this stage. They do say 'add-on pack', i.e. an additional sample set for the current VSM instrument. Never the less it could be a very nice collection of sounds. I just hope they capture "that" string sound I've been trying to coax out of the Arturia CS80v for an authentic Village Ghetto Land (well okay, I'm white and I can see, so not that authentic!!)

  2. I don't think I'm going to hold out for a full set of samples that emulate Aphex Twin's "GX-1 Solo".

For all the cash these things command it's a wonder someone hasn't made a reproduction. At the very least you could offer a module in MOTM or Dotcom format or something that's essentially a GX-1 voice card. I know MOTM sells the GX-1 filter but honestly $350 for a filter is pretty steep.

Sample based with what I'm guessing are modeled effects including filter. So macaixa, you would definitely be right. I updated the post to reflect this. It would be nice though...
