Anchorsong - Devils Clap

YouTube via yohage.
"Anchorsong is the solo project by Masaaki Yoshida from Tokyo, Japan.

He creates music with sampler (AKAI MPC2000XL) and keyboard(KORG Triton) right in front of the audience.
In other words, he re-creates the process of composing on stage. Some people say, "It's like watching a painter drawing on a white canvas."

His 1st EP "The Storytelling EP" was released as a double disc (CD & LIVE DVD) in Japan on 16/05/2007.

After making his career for 3 years in Tokyo, he has moved to London. He's been playing at many live venues and night clubs."

  1. that's a Korg Triton LE

(I like the fact that he's using this keyboard, which is obviously good enough for his live performance even though he can surely afford some of the praised high end synths like a Fantom or whatever)

  2. this a not a diss, just an opinion, but this kind of thing is done a lot nowadays. i see it mostly with one performer with a couple of loopers and a lot of live-instruments. which sounds better and less boring then these (quite annoying) samples he uses.

  3. Cheesy music. Good idea though. Bringing an interesting performative element to electronic music.

  4. right on nathan - & i'll take it a step further... doesn't anyone but me remember the TV show "Solid Gold"? what about "the Lawrence Welk Show"? what do those shows & ol' Anchorsong have in common? LIP SYNCH!!!!!!!!

he's not playing all the parts - it's obvious. where did the strings come from? it's all prerecorded & choreographed to look like he's adding layers to the songs. if he's going to do this, at least her could make the music interesting...

  5. you can see him playing the strings on the MPC. i dont think any of this is pre-sequenced. the sounds might be a bit cheezy, but the technique is top notch.
