NAMM 2008 - Big City Music - Analogue Systems modular noise

YouTube via bigcitymusic
"Here are some noises being generated from a monster Analogue Systems system 8500 with the new rs430 Distortion module. You can also see the new rs600 Performance Wheels modules which are more than just beautiful."

Update via REwire in the comments:
"Oh wait, those are my arms!

In short, the RS-430 Distortion Module has a distortion level that's cv'able as well as the mix ratio. The variations in the video are various CV sources like LFO, S&H and OSC's to the CV inputs. That makes all kinds of distortion sequencing possible, something you can't do with outboard pedals. Also, nothing else in Euro does this; previous distortions like Doepfer's are really Wave Multipliers you have to feed a Sine or Triangle. This takes any waveform and distorts cleanly. I've tried running my modular through guitar distortions and single cycle waveforms just turn to squares and disappear.

I think this video gives you an idea what your tone from a single OSC sounds like and what CV does to it. Make music or noise of that."

  1. why do people only get noise out of a modular?

  2. Agreed- that's a lot of gear and money to just be making noise with it. Also, one suggestion: tripod.

  3. How bloody annoying is that film ! - Just a load of noise and no proper explanation of the what the new modules is doing. Pointless waste of time. Come ON - Give us a real demo of this new module ! !

  4. again, i think this is a fine demo. i guess it just takes a modular user to recognize this.

    Utter ARSE !

This demo doesn't show the clean signal before using the module, It doesn't show any use and graduation of the distortion controls. Its impossible to tell what the module is actually doing !

    Come On ! can't YOU see ( Hear ) that ?

Give us a demo with some clean signals first then show us how the new module does it stuff.-

Too much clutter and hardly any focus on the module being demonstrated in that clip.

Beermaster. ( Owner of one or two modules )

  8. Hey, I have no trouble discerning the effect of this module on the signal to the extent that it is possible from an impromptu youtube video taken on the noisy floor of a trade show.

  9. rewire, thanks for the thorough text explanation of the module. Unfortunately, while I heard a variety of apparent distortion in the video, I didn't really know what was going on. Obviously, NAMM isn't the ideal venue for thorough equipment reviews, and different viewers have different expectations, but I agree with some of the criticism.

cebec, go to Wikipedia and look up "ad hominem attack". You tried it; it backfired.

Back to too many modules ...

  11. I'll try and post a better video this week, with dry and wet signals and a tripod:)

  12. Music is the spaces between the noise.
