Vangelis

"long pre the CS-80 days! Can Anybody add notes to these old organ/synths?"

If you click on Neil's name above it will take you to the shot hosted on flickr where you can add notes. Currently there is one for the second synth on the top left. It's tagged as "Roland SH1000 - Roland's first instrument 1975-1981."

Of course feel free to spot the synths in the comments here as well.

  1. I did not know how to add tags on the flicker. So I do it here:
behind his left shoulder (on the right of the picture) there is a ELKA Rhapsody 610 in the middle. Below it is a Farfisa Syntorchestra in the metal housing version. I am very sure about those, because I own both.
The synth above the ELKA might be a MiniKorg.

  4. Years ago I've analyzed exactly this photo and listed the keyboard on it. Here is the list, starting with those ones in front of Vangelis, and in a clockwise way, bottom to top for each column:
1st Column: Hammond B3, Hohner Clavinet D6 and Korg 800DV Maxikorg.
2nd (diagonal): Selmer Clavioline and Korg 700 (or 700S) Minikorg.
3rd: Rhodes 88, Tornado (toy organ), Roland SH-2000 and SH-3A.
4th: Farfisa Synthorchestra, Elka Rhapsody 610, Korg 700S and a Binson Echorec beside it. And of course, Acoustic Piano Bosendorfer.

  5. I've seen this photo before but the quality of this one is much better.

It was originally used on the Lp front cover of Vangelis' soundtrack "Can You Hear The Dogs Barking?" (aka Ignazio):

I'm suspecting the photo was taken around mid 1975 since that album was released at the end of 1975 or thereabouts.

The Mini-Korg in the 2nd column is a 'regular' 700 (not a 700S) and one of the Roland's is a SH-1000, not SH-2000. Finally, the so-called 'toy organ' is an Elka Tornado IV combo-organ (circa 1970-72 model).

  6. That's true. It's a Roland SH-1000 (not the SH-2000). I've got some of the synths in this photo and, to my suprise, I found that one of the presets of the SH-1000 is the tah-tah-tah sound of "Chariots of Fire".
