  1. Sorry, but there is no moogsound hearable. The Origin Sounds really bad at all. After my tests i need to say that its currently the most overpriced Synth on the market. For that price i got an Andromeda for example, the best "Padsynth" ever.

  2. I wonder how much they paid Future Music to say it's "The most analog sounding VA EVER!". This thing is garbage.

  3. Be fair, it doesn't sound so bad. Arturia do make good sounding products, for example the Prophet V and the Jupiter 8V. The problem has always been their implementation - dodgy copy protections, buggy software, poor support. The sound, though, has consistently been decent.

It's a shame that they didn't focus on improving their existing product line and went for the jugular with this synth instead. If their core products were stable enough to be used live, for example, they would already be a much more popular company.

Perhaps they'll now focus some time and energy on the Origin and turn it into something useful - as a hardware platform it's pretty cool, though I hear that the software doesn't work on it very well at the moment.

  4. Ahhh, the concept is so cool but the sound....not so much :(

Why can't Access or Clavia come out with something like this? :D

  6. Well, first: who would like to fill his/her synth with such plain vanilla noob patches like that - c'mon, Synth Brass in 2008/9? I definitely would like to hear a high-quality mp3/aac before judging any further, but if that's the sound quality, it's a no-go. And why would anybody buy a synth like that to use it for patches like THAT? Ok, I understand if it's an oscillator/filter showdown, but Synth Brass? :-D

Future Music has always had a "noob made a paid test" feeling in there, between the lines. Somehow, I'd trust Sound on Sound when it comes to real testing, not just some fanboy "ooh the wooden ends" shit. A bit like giving a restaurant its stars judging from the tableware.

I would really like to see Origin soar, don't get me wrong, but I'm afraid they've taken a bit too heavy load to carry on their fragile French shoulders. If they've had problems with software, why shouldn't they have problems with software INSIDE the hardware and the h-ware itself? That's a double risk, imho. I still keep on wondering their x2, x3, /2, /3 delay settings. Heeello? Very unpractical.

Also, I recall hearing last week they had to call back a few units of the first batch due to some hardware issues, am I right or was it just some bad talk and just a few units? Anybody?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to buy an Origin, due to its Jupiter and Arp modules and give it a good go. Now that Clavia (or Nord Keyboards) has gone totally Casio and discontinued their G2, Origin is one of the last good things on the market. It's modular, it's light-weight, it's... well. It IS. G2 was.

By the way: if the unit's hand made in France, it sure costs more than a bloody plastic whiny crap assembled by a bunch of 12-year-old Chinese orphans. It's good to see someone still has faith on European manufacturing, it's pricy, yes but it's good for both economics and - well, company image. However, my second car was a Renault and it just decomposed in two years... couldn't take the weather. :-) Let's hope the economic depression and risks taken with Origin don't take their tolls on Arturia.
