Steve Winwood - Valerie
YouTube via polysmart. Vocaloid, Prophet-5 and Linn Drum.
"This time it is a rendition of a classic track from Steven Winwood's 1982 album "Talking back to the Night". Chances are you've heard the 2004 remix "Call on me", which actually samples only a few seconds.
The vocal is recorded with Yamaha Vocaloid, of which I only have a female singer available, so please don't read too much into the song's lyrics. :)
The original track can be found here: [below]
A few boring details:
* Tempo: 116.33 bpm
* Played mostly in A major.
* Original equipment: only a Linn Drum LM-1 and a Prophet 5 (in mono/poly stack)."

The video notwithstanding, an interview with Winwood in Keyboard magazine from the early '80s (reprinted in the "Rock Keyboards" interview compilation book) mentions his use of the Micromoog for this solo, and also a fondness for the CS80 during this era...
ReplyDeleteI think the solo is performed on the Multimoog. Winwood used that synth a lot in the early 80s.
