Somebody told me that for most of the time between 1972 to about 1978, the Arp Odyssey was the best-selling synthesizer in the industry.
ReplyDeleteThe learning aids that Arp marketed in conjunction with the Odyssey were key to the Odyssey's success. Remember, in the 1970s, there was nowhere outside of universities that you could learn how to operate a music synthesizer. The patchbook and panel overlays were very useful. In addition, Arp published a book by David Friend called "Learning Music with Synthesizers" that mixed hands on experimentation with the Odyssey with synthesizer theory. Even now, it's as good as any other book on the subject.
