  1. One thing I find odd about this is that if you can afford all this then why not just buy a damn real piano!?!?!? LOL The only advantage to this I can think of is that for touring bands, you don't have to lug around a 'real' heavey piano.

  2. Oh I don't know, how about the ability to have midi notes vs. audio, not needing to mic up a piano (which is generally not an easy task), and not needing a gigantic recording space for that piano? There's three good reasons.

  3. I guess it's just like having any other samples/sampler. If you're looking for that sound it just makes more sense to me to get the real thing. I also thought about people who would need samples/sampler if you can't play those instruments very well or can't afford a really expensive piece of equipment. If you're playing live you or in a studio you still have to mic drums and vocals etc....which you do if you want that 'authentic' sound.... MIDI notes? Pla.....midi notes are for people who can't play!
IMHO, I'm one of those ;) LOL

  4. If you have tens of thousands of dollars to spend, and the space to house a piano collection, then you can probably also pay for an engineer to come by and mic them. Many people don't have such luxuries. I'm also 100% certain I can't carry a physical piano on a plane with me.

As you point out, there is a major advantage in playing out that people can reproduce the exact same sounds they can in the studio when they're on stage. That is extremely difficult with a physical piano.

A synth blog is a weird place to take umbrage with MIDI.

  5. LOL What I meant was that I'm one of those people who rely on midi because I can't play as good as I would like to. I am not one of the people who have the luxary to have a collection of piano's. I don't care much for the piano sound unless it has some synth backing it up. I'm just a lowly E&I designer... LOL
