  1. Csound is really underrated. It's powerful, mature, stable and free. It's not always easy to get into but it is very powerful.

    Lots of really exotic synthesis tools. Since it's code, it's easier for me to automate complicated tasks.

    It's got great multi platform support and the QuteCsound editor works well.

    If you want to create new sound, csound is great. You could build a lot of samples using the csound manual examples as a starting point.

  2. it's great for learning modular synthesis. not really that great for writing music.
