via the xpantastic list: "Hey folks i recently gave my synth a facelift and managed to remove all of the outer matt finish on my matirx-12 ( those cracks and flakes were becoming too annoying, and i just had to get to the shiny stuff beneath )... it looks amazing now! well i think so anyway.. a new lease of life.... oh and no i didnt use any cleaning products, just a very slightly damp cloth and about 5 hours of work, very carefully teasing the coating off."

Update via Jesus in the comments: "I saw David Morley did the same to his Xpander in this series of videos: http://youtu.be/OlbMPZ7odHw [see 1:57 in embed below]
Looks really nice."

I'm thinking of doing this. How is the naked front panel holding up over the years? Did the exposed graphics wear off and/or is the shiny surface prone to scratches? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHey thanks for all the responses! I would recommend it but again please be ultra careful, you don't want any moisture of any sort getting near the circuitry below! As for how is it holding out? still looks the same, give it a polish with some mr sheen ever now and again just to keep the dust down and the paw prints off! (cat) The surface where the decals are printed is surprisingly resilient but i tend to keep stuff of the top of it anyway. The graphics still look as good as when i initially removed the mat finish.
