"Multiple instances performance demo of the SonicProjects OP-X PRO-II virtual analog Oberheim VSTi plugin synth in 4 hosts and 2 systems.
A session using 21 instances of OP-X PRO-II using only OP-X PRO-II and nothing else for all sounds including drums, bass and used effects.
The session can be downloaded here:
http://www.sonicprojects.ch/opxpro2/description.html#performance
System 1:
Core i7 920 @ 2,66 gHz
Windows 7 Professional 64
RME HDSP 9632
M-Audio Delta 2496 (only used for Protools M-Powered)
00:10 Ableton Live 8.2.2: Average total CPU load 10%
02:04 Steinberg Cubase 5.0.1: Average total CPU load 12%
04:04 Avid Protools M-Powered 8.0.1: Average total CPU load 25%
Regarding Protools it should be mentioned that the FXPansion VST-To-RTAS adapter has been used to wrap OP-X PRO-II to RTAS which may produce some additional cpu cycles, and that the program uses the M-Audio Delta 2496 soundcard which is less performant than the RME.
System 2:
Core 2 Duo E2700 @ 2,53 GHz
Windows Vista Home Premium
Onboard Audio (Realtek) with Asio4all drivers
This system is a very cheap last generation dual core office PC which isn't optimized at all for music and sequencing. Nevertheless the performance is very usable:
06:05 Cockos Reaper 3.7.2: Average total CPU load 50%
08:07 Ableton Live 8.2.2: Average total CPU load 50%
The sessions can be downloaded here:
http://www.sonicprojects.ch/opxpro2/description.html#performance
The sessions also can be checked with the demo version of OP-X PRO-II,the CPU load should be the same. There however will be audio breaks which is one of the demo limitations.
Some hosts (e.g. Cubase) activate the 21 instances at the same time, so the silence will be at the same time for all tracks, in others (including Live) the instances aren't initialized at the same time which leads to shifted silence from track to track which is a bit less suited for testing.
