The Oberheim Matrix-12 is hybrid machine: filters, oscillators and amplifiers are all analogue, while envelopes, LFOs and other mod sources are digitally generated.
A keyboard version of the Oberheim Xpander, it arrived on the market around a year later (1985). It doubled the polyphony and added a 61-note, full-sized velocity-sensitive keyboard. Thanks to the “Matrix Modulation” system every control can can have an effect on some other parameter – the possibilities are impressive and bewildering in equal measure."
